Starting a NA MP Game

In one MP I had the UK was ai, in the other the UK was human controlled (all the other european majors where human) no real problems either way. One thing I do recommend though is since we have a human Prussia we should find a human France.


Oh, and the settings are fine by me, however maybe the autosave should be set to every 5 months. On below normal 10 months is quite a long time, and while the game is stable inMP accidents do occur

Having just gotten very badly spanked by an AI Russia, I would prefer not to have to worry about a human player on my eastern border. I guess I shouldn't have relied on the old friendship from the Danish-Prussian war.

Anyway, it seems to me that Russia is a bit out of proportion to the other powers, even the majors. But maybe that's not such a problem in MP?

Russia has been played by humans in both my MP games (first time I’ve played them) and it’s good for one reason, a human isn’t as crazy as the ai. It’s annoying is SP when Russia just declares war for no reason, that’s avoided by a human at the helm. But if you guys want a ai Russia I can pick someone else, I guess. Not sure who though, and I suck as Spain and France

I actually did want to play as Spain, but after seeing everyone choosing the normal (aka predefined) nations I thought for some reason that it wasn't an option... I will take Spain gladly if that would make game balance a bit better for all...

So far it's just me who wants an AI Russia, and I'm no fanatic on the subject. You have a point about out-of-the-blue DOWs. Granted, my poor Sweden with its three divisions and no alliances must have seemed ripe for the plucking, but just after we fought a major war to a successful conclusion? [/grumble] That's Realpolitik for you.

Anyway, with Austria, Prussia, Russia and OE all human, it becomes a bit easier to play balance-of-power than it would be to try to herd AIs. Also, I think I am doing knee-jerk reactions from Diplomacy here : Of course Russia is going to DOW Sweden the minute the game begins. So a human Russia is OK if nobody else objects.

EDIT : Wups, Dominus wants to be Spain. I guess that's still OK. Hey, who wants to partition Prussia?

I don't mind really, I'm in it for the fun and Spain to me is a hell of a lot more fun than Prussia with its 398 million things that could go wrong... Also, I completely understand the balance of power aspect... That will spread Europe out and keep players from bumping into eachother too early...

I guess my question is what you consider a major nation? UK, and ... ? Russia? I guess the only thing i can thing of would be keep UK w/ ai. rest is up. though it would be nice to have a france and a prussia, but doesn't really matter.

Good discussion so far. I like the argument for Human controlled super powers. If we have a Russia, Austria, OE, Sweden, and Sardinia-Piedmont. Then a France and Prussia would be needed. So we need some players to volunteer for those countries *elbos Dominus and Lotus Lo in the ribs*.

I will be able to play, thanks to my partner letting me use his laptop. Shocked me to no end as he guards it with his life.

Tested and all works well - no icq though (until my computer gets back from the computer hospital.)

You can access ICQ from any computer they have an online ICQ2GO that lets you put in your ICQ number and password and the computer you're on doesn't have to have any program loaded... It's what I use when Im at work. Anyway that would be a good way for us to keep in contact for the game. Try it out.

Ok so Lotus Lo and Dominus have made their final selection. So everything is a go. OK folks Im gonna start a Diplomacy thread. For us to use to negotiate and threaten. I also believe that there will always be behind the sceens talk as well, but we will need a place where public discussion will add to the game.
