In EU3 there was the truly phenomenal option to pick a start date and then click on the months or years at right with the game actually keeping pace in terms of kings, PU's, wars, etc. I don't think it gets recognized enough what a tremendous amount of work this must have been and what a cool feature it was.

I have a feeling the answer will be no, but will you be able to do the same thing in EU4?

What would be seriously be the point of a Paradox game if we weren't unable to do that?

We all know TOG limited this option for Dark Ages, but that's evidently explainable by the lack of information on the subject, and there's also to coutn the number of characters involved.
That's definitively not the case with EU4.

Another argument: I see you've got EU3: just look at the files in the history folder, and you'll see that nearly everything is here yet. Advisor and monarch names and dates are unchanged for the most par (I believe), or leader or ship names are the same in EU3 as in EU4, technologies or buldings got changes but the general pattern is the same, and so on.

So I just don't see any need to worry about that.

The only games where you can choose freely the start date are EU3 and CK2 (and now EU4), just so you know :)

They're also the two games with the longest timelines. The next closest being Victoria at a 3rd of EU's scope at 100 years. So there would be a lot of history missing if they didn't include that ticker. Hoi's ~20 years hardly need every moment to start at.
