I don't like how the starbases I take over from other empires do not update itself to my empire's standards. Both station's appearance design and its weapons.

I only recently noticed the difference when I decided to play a game with some ship component mods. The base I've built fired modded weapons (without station weapon modules), while a recently conquered bastion still carried the old vanilla weapons, only because I was further ahead in tech than they were. This was also noticeable in different values of military power. The way to fix this is to dismantle and rebuilding. But you can't if there's a conquered colony present in the system.

I was thinking instead of gun and missile battery modules, just have a "weapons platform" module which we can design with different hulls and components, like how we design defense platforms (which are honestly useless to me). Then allow us to retrofit the starbase if it's been conquered and carries outdated "weapons platform".

Better yet, just have them update automatically as soon as you conquer it (after you win the war)...

Retrofit would then update whatever weapons platform modules the starbase has, and update its starbase appearance as well.

Right now it's impossible to tell what weapons these gun and missile batteries are supposed to carry.
