I've seen the first six Star Wars movie. I've never found anything interesting in any of them. The only good that came out of the franchise were some the jokes and parodies...some.

The one thing I admire about the series is the world building and sense of wonder it gives viewers.

@slornie
I think we will have to see how it goes to be honest, information on stellaris is a little sparse. Also, naming a few other technology factions in those era would be the Hapes (who will no doubt receive special mechanics due to there situation), the Hutt Cartel (I already have a special mechanic idea for these guys), and the Yevetha (another very religious and xenophobic race).

I do see your point definitely though and the team will be looking to differentiate the factions more than just ideologically. We are waiting to see some more detailed dev diaries before actually picking a start date though.

@Santander
YES! I love the pius dea era. The first time I read about that I was like "that was a thing?" and then the more I read into it the more interested I got.

In the early days of Galactic Civilization, though still long after the disappearance of the celestials, Most of Gordian Reach was a part of Xim’s Empire. Created by Xim the Despot, Xim’s Empire collapsed after Xim died in captivity of the Hutt Empire. After the death of Xim independent regions quickly reasserted themselves marking the end to a short but large empire. Despite its quick rise and fall in power Xim’s Empire would continue to leave its mark on this region of space. The Genoharadan, secret police created by Xim, would continue to exist as a criminal syndicate, lasting another 20,000 years.

Fast forwarding to the Great Sith War, Sith Lord Exar Kun used the temples on Yavin 4 as his personal base of operations. This war lasted less than a year though was bloody and brutal, ending with a pyrrhic Republic and Jedi victory. The last battle of the war was fought on Yavin 4, where thousands of jedi descended upon the moon. Exar Kun, realising the war was lost, using an ancient sith magic ceremony, sacrificed his loyal followers allowing his spirit to be kept alive so as to continue his fight against the jedi. The Jedi, unaware of this ceremony, used the forced to create large light shields around the temples of the moon, though this collided with the magic causing a great fire storm. The Jedi were left powerless as the entire surface of Yavin 4 was utterly destroyed by fire.

The Great Sith War left the Gordian Reach devastated and so Chancellor Tol Cressa assigned G0-T bots to restore the region of space to its former glory. This would quickly backfire though as the bots rebelled, annexing 16 worlds in the process and forming a territory called 400100500260026. This territory was quickly brought to an end by the Republic Navy. The bots looks a designs would later by used by the Empire in the creation of the IT-O Interrogator bot.

Whilst the Great Sith War was brief it would mark the beginning of a series of wars and conflicts known as the “Old Sith Wars” which lasted 64 years. After the conclusion of these series of wars the Jedi decided to wipe the existence of Yavin 4 from public records.

The Gordian reach began to quiet down after that though giving it time to heal. Whilst it was involved in the Clone Wars, it’s battles were small and minimal. Later, the Rebel Alliance would take on Yavin 4 as their primary base. This would see the Empire blockade the entire Gordian Reach Sector.

Finally, we end our information for this region of space on a little of a down note. The last major event to occur in the Gordian Reach was the Stenax Massacres. After the Empire established a presence on the Stenax Homeworld of Stenos, Stenaxes began to leave the world for off world duties. Whilst this appeared harmless, in reality this was a part of a bigger plan by the Stenaxes to determine what worlds were most susceptible to conquest. In 4 ABY Stenax launched attacks on Imperials stationed on their world, as well as non-stenax populations. Seizing control of imperial weaponry, the Stenax began their invasion of the Gordian Reach. Stenaxes massacred millions until they were defeated by the New Republic. This lead to orbital monitoring posts being constructed around Stenos, allowing the New Republic to monitor the species activity.

(Sorry about this week's map guys. I was really uninspired for this region. In hindsight I should have combined this with the Sith Worlds to give me something more. Next week will either be the corporate sector or the Sith Worlds.)

No worries man, everything is chill. We are mainly doing lots and lots of research for the map and species we want in the mod. The dev diaries are to show our map progress to anyone interested, hopefully grab some more helpful people and spark conversation.

@GrandeCommodore
I was actually thinking this the other day when I was watching starship troopers. Like the covenant from halo and the bugs from starship troopers. So many good sci-fis that focus on 1 or 2 species making them really detailed.

I guess deciding about optimal start date is a primary task.
*Rakatan Empire
*Old Sikh Wars
*Ultimate Sikh War
*Clone Wars (lasted 3 years in canon)
*Galactic Civil War (20 years before yavin, 20 after it)
*YUUZHANG VONG WAR (by far the most epic conflict in EU)
*Legacy era (upside - open for inagination)

As well as what would playable factions look like: political entities or races? And if the second one (which I'd prefer), which ones are 'main enough'?

*Humans - coruscant
*Hutts
*Bothans
*Mon Calamari
*Wookie :D
*Neimoidians
*Mandalorians
*'Siths'
*Sullustians
*Rakatans
*Yuuzhan Vong
*Kiliks
*??

Oh guys, your are giving me something here. I propably can synchronize the films by heart, watched Star Wars The Clone Wars (and liked it beside its obvious flaws), got hours sank into games like KotOR 1 and 2, loved the mini-movies and databases from TOR, spend much time reading lots and lots from various Star Wars Wikis...and yet I have to realize I have not a single clue about all the things you are talking about here. I think I really have to get my hands on some books and comics.

@Krajzen
I love the Yuuzhang Vong. They are just so detailed and the artwork looks fantastic.

Regarding species, let me just quickly look at our research... we have 255 planned species currently. Basically we went through nearly all the species on the Wookieepeida and ranked them based on the information available for them and there home-world. But more on our planned species in a future dev diary.

Regarding the start date, if the clone wars was chosen it would more than likely be a start date around the blockade of naboo. Just so we can have it happen, or not, more dynamically. Choosing the start date is currently not our primary task and is actually on the back burner while we research the galaxy for the map and species. We do not plan on choosing a start date till we get more information about stellaris.

@Daddl
Personally, nearly all my information about the universe comes from the Wookieepedia. I have been on heaps of star wars RP forums in the past which is why I have read so much about the Star Wars universe but there is still heaps I don't know.

*cough* I am not VERY (just a bit) entrenched in the expanded universe so I am useless for scenario designing, but when Stellaris come out I could help with doing some general 'spin-off' (?) scenario where major Star Wars species start like major Stellaris species on a symmetrical starts, designed to reflect SW characteristics of such species, with some additional flavour events and stuff.

MAJOR RACES OF STAR WARS UNIVERSE
My criterias of choosing them:
*Availability of sources describing them (wookiepedia etc)
*Appearing more often than rare
*Either significant impact on the galaxy or cool design which makes them worthy enough
*Diversity, so no 'near-human' races
*Non-idiotic (and existing!) graphic design for portraits

1) Humans
2) Mon Calamari

3) Ithorians
4) Bith
5) Hutt
6) Quarians
7) Killik
8) Felucian
9) Rakata

Mmmmmmm this looks tasty. : ^]

I wouldn't mind lending a helping hand though my SW lore knowledge is average at best, basing around the time of both movie trilogies and the old KOTOR games.

@Krajzen
Are you interested in just joining the team and helping out with research?

In any case nearly all of those species have already made our species list. One thing that you may be unaware of though is that we have decided to not include the unknown regions in the first release of the mod. We felt that that region deserves its own release and detail, thus unknown region species are currently on the list but invalid.

Regarding those that want to use our material. Whilst I have not discussed this with the mod team yet, I am gunning for all our work being usable by anyone for anything without asking for permission, so long as credit it given. I want to encourage as much star wars material as I can ;)

Thank you so much for, upholding the gems that are the EU. Still pissed off at Lucasarts for selling to Disney.

I'd love to help out with the mod. Old Sith Wars (KOTOR), and the Empire are my most knowledgeable areas as well as the 6 movies.

:D No Gungans because they suck.
This list, and specifically the parts I've highlighted, has made me wonder how things will work in Stellaris/this mod. On the one hand there are several instances where more than one species inhabit the same world - Mon Calamari and Quarren on Dac, Human and Gungan on Naboo, Pau'ans and Utai on Utapau, and then on the other there are species which exist simultaneously as independent civilizations on more than one planet - Humans on Alderaan, Naboo, Corellia, Kuat and Hapes to name but a few. Of course Humans are so widespread through millennia of migration but it's still something that has to be factored in, and possibly is dependent again on when the mod is set.
