For Star Wars ships. Most weapons are usually hidden within trenches or embedded within the ships hull. Few ships have actual visual turrets without looking extremely close up to a ship. Most weapon components for the Imperial ship culture are going to be "invisible" points.

Vanilla ships, should they get access to turbolasers, will use the kinetic cannon models are their turrets.

if i may recommend the kinetic cannon models reload time be shortened up to be in-tuned with the star wars space battle theme along with a slight increase to the color brightness of the rounds coming out.

I see you guys are looking for a fill in for the role of the corvette, in keeping to the distinctive wedge shape within the Imperial Navy may I suggest the Arquitens-class light cruiser or what it is commonly referred to as the Imperial Light Cruiser, should also be easier on the coding since it has turrets. Size If I can remember is around 150m-200m

i think there should ultimately be multiple models for each ship size.

while the Arquitens is more of a old republic ship than an empire ship i agree with PILLZ H33R since it fits the wedge motif of empire ships.

Will there be any periodicity with the DD or they will come when they come?

Honestly, the corvette shouldn't be the Arquitens-class for the Imperials (leave that to the Republic?), I would also bounce the Carrack-class as well. Recently the new canon corvette class ship for the Imperials is the Raider-class corvette. I know that both SoaSE and EaW modders are starting to use someone's (Warb_Null?) Raider model.

nice callout. that raider class looks and even acts kinda perfect for an empire corvette. looks like the bastard child of an ISD and a tie interceptor.

for a very long time PDS has used a proprietary 3D model format, meaning nobody else had access to it. that is until the forumite @Joror fashioned a converter that allowed maya/3ds max/blender modelers to make 3D models that could then be exported to the proprietary format. that's just what i know as a secondary source. i tagged him so he'll notice my post

so if you see this Joror can you give us the full story?
The full story is fairly simple: Late 2014 I reverse engineered the '.mesh' 3d model files for a total conversion EU4 space mod I was working on. Asked Paradox if I could release a tool that can import/export to that format, they said that was ok.
The '.mesh' (and '.anim' for animations) file format is owned/developed by Paradox itself, and is in use since EU4 - it is a clean tree-like data structure that stores both raw model data (vertex positions, texture mapping) as well as Paradox specific data (like special effect nodes for cannons, which specific Clausewitz shader to use, etc). CK2 (and games before it) used an older '.xac/.xsm' proprietary file format owned by a 3rd party, but CK2 also understands & uses the '.mesh' format since the Charlemange DLC.
HoI4 and Stellaris fully use the '.mesh' format as well.
My tool initially supported conversion from Collada to .mesh (and .anim for any animations), and later on also for exporting .mesh to Collada files. It doesn't cover all the special cases (trees in EU4 for example) or support editing all the specific Paradox-added values. I haven't updated it for a year, but seems to still operate well enough for HoI4 & Stellaris.
(see http://www.eu4wiki.com/JoroDox_mod_making_tool too)

Unfortunately, I quite frankly doubt It will be past the required amount of coding and polish in order to be past stage one... :(
On another note, what variety will we have on the leader portraits, will we have leaders seen in the canon/non-canon universe or will
we throw in some randomers?

I think they said it'll purely be Legends, so that's the 'non-canon' stuff.

So how is the mod coming along? It's putting us star wars fans to shame against those pesky trekys :p

Indeed when is an alpha release?

I see in the individual map thread you mention something about placing starting positions for some civs. Is that still happening or are you just focusing in the main overhaul?
