I discovered this Stellaris Star Wars mod project only today: kids, I'm really impressed by the huge amount of work and love emanating from this thread

that's for sure, but it seem to me that the mod developers are on the right way..@hattorihanzo
Now to turn that love into results XD
@slornie
huh, that is interesting:
I saw a map of where the starkiller base is, and at the least it is in the same area as Illum. Wookieepedia describes it as a "mobile ice planet".... I think you might have something here.... very interesting indeed.
Yeah, it's an ice world all right. I may have tried to forget as much as I can about that disaster they call a movie, but I do still remember that much. Just look it up on Wookieepedia. First line of the article in question: "Starkiller Base was a mobile ice planet..."also (slight spoiler i guess...?) starkiller base isn't an ice world. it's just a standard temperate planet with [REDACTED] and forests and snow.

Well, every overhead shot of the planet I've ever seen seem to show snow (at the least) extending all the way from the poles to the equator, which suggests that it is simply a really cold planet that happens to have some trees on it. Due to the trees, it's obviously not as cold as, say, Hoth, but it is cold enough to be completely covered in snow.I think we may need more biome. When you say ice planet I see a planet cover in ice but in the movie we've seen forest so it's more like a boreal planet. If such a thing even exist.
That is true, it does have trees. Which, to me, sounds more like a tundra then an ice world. An ice world, to me, is basically a really cold ocean planet. Tundra is probably not the right word for it, but what I mean is that it has a substantial amount of actual ground.
I believe the ice planet description for Starkiller base comes directly from the Star Wars Databank.Well, what we can at least agree on is what we have seen and know (rather than the wookieepeida article, which could be written wrong on the "ice planet")
If we're just going off "canon" material, and not old Expanded Universe, there's only two appearances (TCW) for Ilum which can hardly be conclusive re: existence or not of trees on a planetary level (also ~60 years apart).Fact: Starkiller base is very near where Illum was/is located
Fact: Both Planets main geographic feature is ice/snow
Fact: Starkiller has a number of visible trees, Illum does not
Presumably: Starkiller has dirt underneath the snow due to the presence of trees
Presumably: Illum does not have dirt underneath the snow due to a lack of any/all vegetation.
Wut? 160km diameter DS is bigger than 5,870km diameter Ilum?Back to wookieepedia articles for some measurements:
Now starkiller base is twice the size of the death star 2, the death star 2 is 160KM in diameter. Illum has a diameter of 5,870KM, much smaller than the second death star.
OH yer, sorry. For some reason my brain registered 160km as 160,000km... no idea why.Wut? 160km diameter DS is bigger than 5,870km diameter Ilum?![]()
