Even with Sol-based calendars, we really don't need months. Just a Julian Year.Day format would suffice.

Just like the good old Third Imperium! :)

What would be a nice option would be to let the player set the length of the year, and the starting year, as a cosmetic feature. Setting the start year to zero as a standard choice makes sense, and is in line with a lot of SF where the calendar is based on the year that FTL was acheived.

While I understand the fluff/flavour of doing it differently, I really like the current system myself, it's relatable, easy to understand and just 'works'

I'm only suggesting it as a display mod, really. Paradox probably don't need to bother with it - someone will likely do a Stardate mod that works in Ironman within a few days of launch :)

Wouldn't a decimal star date measurement of time be more "in flavour" instead of the month/year way it is currently represented? Or even better, if one could choose or it matched your Ethos?

It would just be confusing - I don't even understand the whole "star date" thing in Star Trek.

For one, as a player, it's easily to relate too. Secondly, especially if playing as a Human for example, why would the calendar change just because we now have super-fast spaceships?

If you want a mod, go ahead :)

But as a human player, the current calendar gives me an anchoring point and is familiar enough, so i'd prefer to use it and not learn/adapt to some other form of calendar.

Sounds like easy mod material, but for most people playing this game confusion of how much time has passed between now and when Stellaris picks up doesn't sound appealing.

Speaking of date, it would be nice if we could switch to dd/mm/yyyy format, since the current yyyy/mm/dd format is slightly annoying, at least to me (also Americans might want to switch to their own confusing mm/dd/yyyy format :D ).

I'm fine with whatever the devs think is comfortable for them. All three can be argued to be the most "logical" but in the end 2/3 of players will not get what they want. Being an American it'll take a little bit for me to get used to it, but it's inconsequential in the end.

Edit: What might be better is to have the option for all three to be selected from.

I can't speak for my fellow Eaglelanders, but as a Burgurstani I have absolutely no problems with yyyy/mm/dd... there's no confusion whatsoever as long as yyyy is four digits and mm comes before dd.
