Ok its 1540 V1.04 GC Cherokee I have 10 Land, Quality, Free Subjects and 4 Offensive, 100% maintenance army and Tech Lvl 2.

I'm sieging with 13K infantary against a 10k fortress in the mountains against the Aztec. It's their last province to fall. There is no attrition. My morale however was reduced in a fight and has not gone back to 100% (bug?).

In around the right amount of time I reduce the siege to -4 (three months to fall)

2 years!!!! later it's still the same value -4.

I have to give up trying to get 100% war score and settle for crap cos of WE!! Arrggghh nash nash stomp stomp!!!!!

This is not the first time, I've had similar problems with other sieges stuck at -6, -4 and -5 for years. But to add to the frustrating confusion similar sieges go fine. (It seems that the last province to fall gets stuck - Is the AI teasing me???)

Ok I could go down to 1 Offensive for siege bonus but then I get the -1 shock which I assume is bad in fighting Lv2 versus Lvl 11 for England and Spain.

Other than that what can I do? I did not have a problem in my first GC with England.

Please someone help me.

David.

it happens often to me and it's always coastal provinces... but I can get rid of it easily by blockading the port. But now if it is a coastal province, can you produce ships and do you have the map of the seazone adjacent to the aztec province?

Something similar happened me... I think it was Nyland in Sweden, sieged it as Novgorod. I took it down to -5 fairly easy, but it never ever went lower than that. After nearly a year I got the province anyway.

No, your morale is at 100%. However, it's not at the far right of the bar where morale is shown. The reason is that the Aztec's probably got a higher morale than you've got and that the morale bar is adjusted to fit their morale. You see, your morale can be at the far right when you're disciplined, as well as when you're invincible depending whats maximum for you. When in a siege, only the unit with invincible morale get the morale bar filled out completely.

The Dutch provinces take forever to siege without canons, so does the province on the tip of Brittany.

Look at the siege for an entire month. Did the cannon fire? If not, then the siege has stuck and will not progress any further until something changes (a battle fought in the province or failed assault IIRC). Usually saving/reloading works wonders (same as the cure for the sleeping AI, actually)

If the cannon did fire, then you have just been very unfortunate. While you do know that you shouldn't take those "4 months" seriously, 2 years of siege is not common for a level 2 fortress - even in mountains.

This one could well just be a normal long seige. But see this discussion thread for a rebel seige that is totally frozen. I have put this on the bug forum in this bug report.

Note to Peter Ebbesen - in this case the cannon does fire, but the seige is nonetheless frozen.

I have never had one of my own seiges completely freeze, though 3+ year seiges are obviously quite common.

I had a seige freeze for about a year a few days ago (stuck at 3), the solution in my case was to march the army out of the province and reurn again the next month, roughly 8 months later the province was mine.

That was nothing one time I assualt a place and they lost no men. I would mind so much but i had a 3-1 superiority and massive moral advantage. Another time I seiged the same provice in 2 different wars and the seige never moved (after about 3 years each time), in the end I had to tke the place by strorm. In several games I have seen sieges just hang and not advnace after [INSERT NUMBER HERE]. However these have always been unique to the paticular game I was playing. So I could not really claim it was a bug that I could reproduce.

Johan did. He said it was a feature, not a bug. Weird feature but ah well ;)

How about a Spanish fort in Matagorda, I think, that was surrounded by me, the English. It was about a 1500 person colonial city with a lvl 2 fortress and the roll over says to me "Can hold out for years" and it wasn't kidding. I must have pumped a total of 100K in there (though never at once due to attrition). Even threw in artillary (that I couldn't really afford) but no going. It turned out to be the last Spanish stronghold in the new world - never did take the son of a gun. Is that arbitrary, a bug, normal, Bueller, Bueller....?

In the real world, some seiges have lasted for years

Quite true. But why could I take down plenty of other fortresses with the same lvl, same number of troops, same time of year, same terrain but not this one. Does the AI have an idea of what areas are strongholds or something? It was quite exasperating.

Sometimes fortresses hold out despite all odds. Just chalk it up to stiffer resistence from one group of defenders (for whatever reasons).

I think this may be a reoccurance of Chas's bug.

The cannon fired every month for 2 years but the siege remained at -4 for the two years.

The siege took 9 months to a year to get to -4 so the seige in total time was at least approaching 3 years.

I did try reloading the game several times but that didn't help.

If it happens again, I try moving troops in and out.

Thx for the replies.

David.
