I am amazed Stardock still exists as a company. They are the Byzantine Empire of 4x game publishers. So you already know they are going to resort to the same types of tactics.

Not yet, anyways. But going purely by Civilization games' release schedules a new main entry in the franchise is due this year or next year. Last main entry in the series came out way back in 2010 - 6 years ago.Civ6 is not announced.

More like 15 years. Brian Reynolds Alpha Centauri still hasn't been topped and honestly never will. Civ 4 was only truly amazing when heavily modded.

I'd be shocked if Stellaris is released in 2016. We are still awaiting the release of HOI.
I hope I'm wrong, but I'd be willing to wager that Stellaris gets pushed back to early 2017

PI did say that they would no longer announce a game that wasn't in alpha (or wasn't in beta?), so I inferred that Stellaris is closer to launch than HOI 4 was when they announced it, though that doesn't mean it still can't be delayed. Fingers crossed.
We know that Stellaris was closer to release on announcement. We know it's in a playable state (fredrick wester tweeted about internal Mp games of stellaris) and we know it's 3-6 months to release from approves beta. My guess is that both stellaris and hoi4 are at the same point in the cycle and hoi4 just got set back meaning stellaris will be q1-q2 and hoi4 q3-4
