I noticed on screenshot #8 that there was a question mark next to the german units. is it possible to invest in spying on other countries for better intel, or will it be limited to use tech's to improve your information on the enemy.

Yes, intel were downplayed in HOI. I would like to be able to break into OKW and steal their battleplans! Maybe a bit hard, but intelligece operations is a nice extra.

PS. Bandwith! Anybody recived the message: Server is busy? DS

How would you include that the german intell. Was much worse than the allies. Exampel: The russians knew all about the german charge at Kursk.

Germany only knew an invasion would take place in france but not where in france....

I hate that "Server is to busy at the moment"

Ok.. But Hoe would this work? You cant hav a thing like we have 2spies at Berlin 1 in München 4 in Lübeck.. That would be micromanagement....

Tell me how it would work!! I dont think Paradox should think up a whole new spie system on their own... I dont think they will include as many ideas Without an explanation how it would work...

Or??

I dont think paradox would 'think up a whole new spy system' They might 'borrow' one ;), Like the civilization spy system. i however hope that paradox dont have a spy system like the civilization one...

If they do happen to make one, they could make it as simple as possible e.g telling you that their 4th army are moving/planning to attack metz! or that berlin are building forts!

or an american task force are landing at cannes/Russian is planning to attack soon!

Its really up to paradox, they'll have to solve that problem cause i aint got a damn clue! :p

and it doesn't just have to be spies you could also have recon planes/resistint groups, assinging missions to take place daily, Or asking for information.

Simple spy solution: Create the possibility to "Send spies" on the diplomatic screen. Then you recieve info in a pop-up!

Yes it souds way to simple.. Spies need training and spes get cought. It can end up with the Country that captured the spie gets mor info. than the country that send the spie...

Well the easiest way to implement an intelligence system is to have sliders (in the same place as those for consumer goods, production, supplies, and research), except in this case have one for intelligence. Then perhaps an ability to subdivide that slider into counter espionage and espionage.

For example, I want to allocate 25% of my IC to consumer goods, 15% to supplies, 20% to research, 20% to production, and the remaining 20% to intelligence. Then there could be a little slider within the slider that allows you to allocate that 20% between counter espionage and espionage.

Its simple to implement and avoids micromanagement. The beauty of it is that later on (in patches) Paradox could implement a screen where you devote percentages of your espionage effort to certain countries, etc. But, I doubt you would go below the country level and allocate spies to individual states or provinces, that's way too much for a human player or even the AI to deal with.

Oh btw, Paradox probably can't ever have intelligence that tells you when a country will declare war or where they'll attack because the human player (and probably not the AI either) knows that until they commit, and by then, you know they're coming cause you're under attack. You could however, get information on troop buildups, which is more in line with real world intelligence gathering anyways (i.e. you don't usually know when or where someone will attack, only that they are planning to hit a certain area in the coming weeks due to buildup).

AFAIK in the real war... Most of the intelligence was either through technical advances in code breaking, advanced recon units (air and ground), or partisian efforts rather than spies.

Not to say that there were spies, but technically the breaking of Ultra (which was mostly helped out by modern computing of that time) and things like Radar and radio which instantly let people know where the enemy was etc...

I always considered your choice Inteligence minister to be what you would consider "spy games".

I think the original HoI kind of modeled it ok in a sense, but perhaps better intelligence could lead to a better combat effectivity since not only would you know where the opponents troops are moving, but where to attack them on a small level (ie knowing where to point your arty and where to send the planes which techinically is simulated by recon, radio, and forward observer techs).

What could help in the area "we know they are going to attack" is requiring HQ's and pre-offensive build ups for some type of organization which could be noted through the intelligence system or seeing provinces with amounts of troops and what they are doing in that province (ie marching, digging in, or mounting preparations for an offensive).

Perhaps troops can be told to either build up stockpiles, reorganize, or digin... Might be a little too much micromanagment, but just a thought.
