What was that spheroid at the end of the first mission? It looked to small to be a union, and it was strangely shaped...

It's a Union (Connor verified) and once you zoom out far enough it DOES look spherical. It's just BIG.
If it wasnt already confirmed as a Union, if could be a Fortress which is basically a more combat oriented Union, or a Intruder, a Marik-Dropship, a Sassanid or - most probable, a Danais, a Taurian-Concordat Dropship around the same Weight as a Union.
And its not that big
Looks around 40-50 Meter in size. That means its not a Manatee or Confederate, which are only around 30-35 Meter.
There are quite a few spheroid Dropships in use around 3025, most of them are very heavy customized since the tech isnt very common anymore and at that time, i think there are only like 20 new Dropships build in the entire Innere Sphere. Could be wrong, don't know if that number was already updated because there was a retcon a few years back that upped the number of Dropships from a couple hundreds to a couple thousand.
And its not that big

Pretty sure a fortress is way way bigger than a union. as I recall it carries a company of mechs and a Battalion od armour/infantry(?) almost twice the size I've seen unions in a couple of vids now.

Even without the confirmation we can just measure it. We have the original values in Meters from the TROs and we have a Centurion to scale.
So if you just measure the picture, the Centurion is 42 Pixel in height, the Dropship is 302 Pixel from the left leg until the upper edge on the top. If we divide the numbers, the Dropship has 7.19 times the size of the Centurion.
If we use the minimal height of Mediums in the universe, we have 10*7.19 = 71.9 meter
If we use the normal height of Mediums in the universe (12 Meter), we have 12*7.19 = 86.28 meter
We know they used the MWO Models, what we dont know if they used the same scale as the inflated MWO models, which are oversized. A MWO Centurion has 14 Meter, which would be 14*7.19 = 100.66 meter
Comparing that to the Dropship sizes we can see which could be possible.
Union: 78 meters
Fortress: 94 meters
Intruder: 61.5 meters
Sassanid: 63 meters
Danais: 78 meters
Manatee: 37 meters
Conferate: 32.6 meters
We have to keep in mind that the picture above is slightly tilted, which definitely changes the scale a bit, but i think since both models are in the same picture, we can accept that.
A Union, or a Danais would be our best bet. If the Centurion is 11 meter ingame height, we would be at a 79.09 meter Dropship size, very much the same as the Union. And as it turns out, im very bad at judging since i eyeballed the height of the Dropship in my previous post as 60 meter
