The headhits also result in Pilot injuries including the fact that the pilot most likely already suffered one due to you being able to call a shot.
Ah, right... good catch.

Although even there, three is the minimum health, and as far as I can tell pilot injuries only happen one at a time (maybe you can get two if two different methods occur, but I've never seen it happen)... so you'd better be confident that the pilot has already suffered TWO injuries or again it just isn't worth it.

I am not trying to say that aiming at the head is the be all end all or even a good option most of the time, it is however at the same time not "wasting ones chances" including the fact that it only chances the weighting so even if you try to hit the head you will most likely still hit another optimally already stripped critical location it is not really wasted in any way.
Well, I'd say that in the majority of cases, when I have the option of a called shot there is at least one location besides the head that I'd rather hit than the others. Giving up the increased chance of hitting that specific location, particularly when I need more than one weapon to do it, is a massive opportunity cost of calling a shot on the head.

On more than one occasion in the beta, I managed to CT core an otherwise pristine mech because the AI made the mistake of overheating to the point of shutdown while in full view of my lance.
