Sorry to hijack the thread a bit here, but It seems like a good place to ask. Is there an ideal time to split POPs?
I tend to split them once they hit 40k, but the few that I have let grow seem to grow faster once they get up to 45-60k. Is it worth waiting till 60k and spliting them twice and then waiting again?
Or in the long term does it all even out anyways?
There are two valid thresholds to split them, each with its advantages:
a) at 40k, you can split. It makes no difference to growth, but the two 10 and 30k pops will produce more than a single 40k pop.
b) at 66,667, if you split you get one 50k and one 16,667 pop. The 50k is the threshold for the maximum production rate, so you have the highest efficiency from an employed pop.
I usually pick a) if I have a small population, to maximize production, especially in RGOs.
I pick b) when I want the highest efficiency in my factories, for example if I don't want the production rate to drop (e.g. it's critically close to the 'needed' figure), but I don't have another immediately available job for the smaller pop in the same factory. Also, and marginally, if I want to drive demand for goods up.
But often b) is more a matter of personal tidiness, really. Industrial score is based on number of pops in factories, not on their size, anyways.
