Does someone know, if its possible to split one production line (15x factories Pz III) to 2 different lines (8x Pz III AT and 7x Pz III SP)(and also keep the production efficiency)?

Thank you!

I don't think so. But when you start a new production line of a modified version or a variant of an existing model, you keep some of the production efficiency.

From DD#5:

If you change to a modified version of the same equipment (for example, the same tank but with a larger gun) you keep most of your Efficiency. If you switch to another variant of the same chassis (e.g. you switch from Pz IIIs to StuG IIIs) you keep half your Efficiency. And if you switch within the same family (e.g. Basic Medium Tank to Improved Medium Tank) you keep a small part of your Efficiency...

Will there be a button to do it automatically? Probably not. Can it be done manually? I don't see why not :D

Edit: I don't know if you'd be able to do this with maximum efficiency though, as you mentioned.

I would say yes.
First, you loose efficiency if you switch the production. -25% for Variants [Ausf. A -> Ausf. B], -50% for submodels [tank -> TD / SpArt], -75% for same 'family' [Panzer III -> Panzer IV / Panther] (All values AFAIK, could be less)
It would require, I think, a bit of micro. First change the Panzer III line to the TD one, remove 7 factories from the line, create a new production line for the SP and assign 7 factories there. (The AI should be smart enough to assign the factories to a line, which have the highest gearing bonus for it.)

You will run multiple lines of the same equipment anyway, since one wont be sufficient to replace losses and to equip new divisions with it. If you research and decide to produce variants of the chassis (TD/SP-ART/SP-AA) you can swap out a few lines of pzIII for them and they will only take a 50% efficiency hit rather than a 100% hit. There are of course also tech (mass production vs flexible lines) that you can choose from that either let you gain efficiency faster or loose less if swaping lines.

If you want the production line split you'd have to split it to begin with, i.e rather than 1 line á 15 factories 2 lines with 7/8 factories each.

Since factories have "memory", you just need to make sure to do it like G-sus said and make sure that the new production line is the the first in your queue, so they receive your experienced factories and not some other production that has 7 destroyed factories in them and swaps them out for new ones.

Here's what G-sus said earlier:

Could go south too, if their is a small boni for more factories in a line the better.

I believe that 15 factories in a single line increases the efficiency of the line much faster than 5 factories on the same line. Thus, splitting up 15 factories into three lines would eventually result in a more flexible production line with the same efficiency of a single 15 factory line, but for a while the 15 factory line will be pulling ahead in output.

Seems like a really interesting trade off to me. I hope that this is the case :)

I just have to ask, has that been confirmed? I haven't been able to find mention of that in the DD, and don't think we've seen scenarios like this in the streams (if we have, I haven't been paying attention).

As a nitpick, depending on how the efficiency loss works, it's probably more efficient to cancel those 7 factories before you switch the line to TDs, since if it works on "percent of current" and not "percent of max", you'll lose 50% twice since those factories switch first from PzIII to TD and then from TD to SP-ART for a total efficiency loss of 75%.

It has been confirmed in one of their streams and somewhere in the forums aswell.
