Split inheritance

For reasons I cannot quite understand my inheritance is going to be split between my two sons. I still have a long time to do something about it before old age sets in so I thought I would ask for advice.

I am playing as a Duke and what is bothering me is my two sons are set to inherit separate duchies. This will mean they fall out of my line of vassalage and go directly to the King. Obviously I want to avoid that.

My succession laws are AC Primogeniture so I had rather assumed I would be passing the whole lot on to my eldest son.

My eldest son is set to inherit some counties from his mother from another dynasty, and some of my own but my main titles are passing on to my second son.

Advice sorely needed here...

I think the problem lies with your wife's succession Laws.A couple of questions:
Are you from Separate Kingdom's?(Separate Crown Laws)
Did she inherit and have your Eldest Son before you did?
Does her Kingdom or Your Kingdom have High CA?

The problem is being caused by your first son inheriting some of your wife's land and her realm is probably in high crown authority. It may not actually get split up depending on the specifics and who dies first, but the game can't predict what is going to happen. It's hard to say much more without having more information.

What is the crown authority of both realms? Are both the duchies under your King's crown authority or is one of them outside of it?

I've had something similar, although slightly odd as well...

I am the Duke of York and Northumberland, my wife is Duchess of Gwynedd (both agnatic-cognatic primogeniture). She gave birth to twins (one boy and one girl), the boy becomes heir to the duchy of Gwynedd while the girl becomes heir to my titles. I'm guessing it has to do with crown authority preventing titles passing outside the realm.... the oddity being that if I die before my wife then my son gets skipped over in favour of his sister...

The entire inheritance covers a lot of different places.

I am the Duke of York, Northumberland, Lancaster, Flanders and Brabant as well as earl/baron of a few other bits.

To be inherited by my eldest:
2 Scottish counties form his mother
All titles in France and Flanders

To be inherited by the 2nd son
My three English Duchies
A few minor titles also in England


So.. if the problem is coming form the Scots inheritance am I better off if I do away with his mother? If he inherits his Scots titles that might at least clear up what happens next.

Without telling us what the Crown laws of Scotland are?and What her succession laws are?What are Crown laws of England?(Unless your France/Hre)

I have NO chance of predicting if Her Death will straighten things out.

If Scotland has High CA her death will give her lands to your Eldest son......because I'm guessing you had him BEFORE you inherited your Ducal titles.If whatever realm you are in(as Duke)has High CA all of your titles will go to your 2nd son.

Those pop up alert you if there is any chance....of going to differnt realm.(It often pop up during Civil Wars)

We really need to know what the crown authority of England, Scotland and even France/Flanders to answer. I'm guessing that England has high crown authority here? In that scenario, if your first son isn't landed and his mother dies, he'll inherit her 2 counties in Scotland and become a vassal of the King of Scotland. If the crown authority in England is high and then you die, he can't inherit those English duchies because that would require them pass out of England. Therefore it's listing your second son as heir to those. Your first son can probably still inherit the other land because the crown authority there isn't high. If your character dies first, then your first son will probably inherit everything, but the game simply doesn't know what will happen and is just showing you one scenario. I think that if the crown authority in Scotland is not set at high, then giving your first born son a county in de jure England will probably fix things for you. This is all still assuming a lot as there is still a lot of missing information.

How can I find out the laws in another country? I can navigate around places by clicking on shields but don;t know how to select one outright.

My territories in Flanders and Brabant are English, and I owe my loyalty there to the English crown although when I died (blitzed through and tested) all the territory there went to the first son along with the Scots titles.

I'v read so much about inheritance and still, it's certainly the most complicated aspect of the game, at least for me.

One thing that could help, would be to have a reason of inheritance when we hover another heir with the mouse. Like ''xxx is heir of yyy by Primogeniture, or whatever''. Actually it's maybe something possible and I just don't know. I'v seen so many vassals going away when everything was set up to prevent that.

For Foreign Realms:
Use Dejure Kingdom mode.it is on right side of the map type icons.(It is middle of the three crowns)
just put pointer over de jure land of that Kingdom.

For your realm just click on the hammer icon.
then click on your shield to find out succession laws etc.
click on your King's Shield for laws of England.

For your wife's succession laws:
open character screen,put mouse pointer over her shield.
