Let me clarify. It is not about the map projection. In euiv, vic2 etc... you can take a ship and like Magellan circumnavigate the globe. I.e. sail west and end up at the same place. That is the map represent the world as a globe. The IR map crops the edges as inaccessible. Is that the only thing that stops a circumnavigation or is it an actual flat earth - have any one investigated this?
 
During the launch stream I believe I recall the devs stated it was NOT possible to have the world wrap around because of the way the pathing is calculated for unit movement in I:R. I can't point you to exactly where that was at unfortunately.
