The speed with which armies could move around increased dramatically during the 19th century, mainly because of the proliferation of railways. Likewise, the later armored battleships were generally faster (and rather less subject to attrition) than the sailing ships of Nelson's time.
Is it possible to emulate this?
I had thought of the following:
The incorporation of at least one, possibly two new tech levels, with an increase in land and naval mobility being the main consequence. Would this work?
(Think Berlin-to-Baghdad or Trans-Siberia, etc)
