but surely, light infantry should be much easier / quicker to recruit than knights, right?
AFAIK all kinds of units are recruited at the same speed. The difference is in upkeep (4,5gd - 100 knights, 1gd - light infantry). Is this correct? I think it does - parameters influencing army composition make for it.

The only problem I have with troop recruiting is when your regiments are at maximum strength, and then for 1 month your leige changes scutage from 0 to max. Your regiment drops to 2/3rd (or less) of it's previous size (still at max strength).
Then your leige stops scutage. Suddenly your regiment is at 2/3rd size. All those hundreds of men you had trained (but not called up) have forgotten their training...

Lordvagrant, any of my fellow aussies playing mplayer at the moment?

I just did a test regarding the 'teleporting' of troops.
An army of 1000+- men from the county of Nantes were disbanded in leon, only about 100 or less made it home.
reloaded the game, paid the 30g fare for them to go back to nates and then disband, almost 100% of them remaind behind.

iirc there is a % loss when you disband even on your own demesne.

as for the army recruitment. i find that if you have a good steward rating you have a better chance to recruit bigger armies. i accidentally found out when i forgot to assign a steward. my province making 500 knights became 200 knights in 1 month O_O; bah. make sure you have a good martial and steward rating i guess. also, it depends on what province you have. ie: rich or poor.
The steward thing is pretty annoying actually - I've clicked on the message, gone to assign a new steward and lost 100s of troops because of time passing whilst I was in the court screen (presumably something it checks for at the start of a month). The only way to definitely avoid it is to press pause before okaying the message. I do think when your steward, chancellor etc dies the ok button should take you straight to the court and not unpause until you click away from it.
