That many popups is just bad planning, I'm afraid, either in arranging your borders or in your message settings. :D
I like pop-ups for everything. :D

From armies ending their movements, to battles, to sieges, to merchants, to nations joining a war, to broken RMs, to revolts, etc, etc. :D

And I was slightly exagerating. ;)

I always play on very fast as I try to change the speed and it just don't work, just another failing of my gameplay. :(
But I can normally do 100-150 years a night, this is on a laptop, in front of the tv, talking to my girlfriend (so she doesn't stop me from playing :D )
I pause a lot, but I prefer to force myself to react to the way things are going, I play as a commander, not God like lawkeeper.
Caesar couldn't stop time, neither can I. (unless i am really in the shit  )

This evening I played 5 years and it took 5 hours. Now all my armies and ships stand ready for BB war round no 1 as Byzantium. The year is 1779 and when I start up the game tomorrow evening I will press the annex button and then I estimate the number of messages the first 10 days at about 300, not less. Ah, how sweet... :D

generally a GC takes me 40-45 hours. this can be broken down into 8-12 hour sessions, about 80-120 years each, depending on speed.

so three-four days. means no work, no people, some food, too many stimulants and no life. anyhow, i don't play like this anymore.

edit: 1000 posts! well, that took about ... three years.

I play at above normal in peace and normal in war/endgame. I play sessions of 40 to 20 years respectivley and usually finish a GC in a couple of weeks. I just don't spend a lot of time building reorganizing and moving around units (either for war or exploration) which IMHO is the most tedious and time consuming micromanagement in the game.

I play the game on Extremely Fast throughout the entire game. I play on this speed even during wars (I rely on sound effects to let me know what's going on off screen). I pause whenever I am doing something relevant. It usually takes me about two weeks, playing 5-8 hours three days per week, to finish a Grand Campaign. Honestly, I wish it took me longer. I love games that take forever but playing on any speed less than Extremely Fast is just painful. I feel like I am watching grass grow.

Depending on what I'm doing I stick around Fast or faster. During a war I have been known to creep along at Normal.

My Spain game took 2 months to finish and I cruised at the end. Though I finished a Brandenburg/Prussia game in little over two weeks.
