"Worst Optimized" isn't a term you can just throw around. Unless you've seen the source code and know everything about the work it's doing, it's simply not a judgement that can be made. An application can be perfectly optimized, running at the theoretical maximum possible speed, and still bog down a computer. Slow != poor optimization.

Considering the Optimisations we managed to the 1.04 patch (currently in public beta) there is probably a case to be made that HoI3 could of done with more optimisation at release. Worst optimised it may not be, but we could of done better on that department.

Most probably. If it can handle HttT reasonably well, it can do HoI3, so it should be able to play Vicky2.

Tried the HoI3 Demo. Hardly had an issue with gameplay, except a slight lag at max speed. Loading the game took frighteningly long though. I hope this was an area in particular that got optimised? ;)
I have an Intel E6750 dual core CPU with 2GB RAM and GeForce 8800 GTS. It's a couple years old now but it's nice to know it still suffices for recent Paradox games.

those specification concerns are starting to scare the hell out of me. i thought those kind of games required the least compared to the other games out there on the market?
They do. But now things are moving ahead and technology that was merely "substandard" in the past is now steadily becoming "nearly useless." :)

Let's compare. The HoI3 Demo runs about as smoothly on my computer as Civilization 4 (not considering the loading time). HoI3 is from 2009 and Civ4 is from 2005. So yeah, I'd say Paradox games go easy on their system demands. You can't go on living with that Pentium of yours forever though. ;)

Don't have HOI3, but HttT (the demo, anyway) works fine.

Does that mean I'm probably OK for Vicky 2?

My guess is yes, but when the demo for V2 does come out try it first.

The big thing really is graphics card, as I said above. Paradox games these days really do need a graphics card with 1 GIG dedicated RAM on it to make the game run smoothly.

Where can you buy a graphics card with 1 GIG dedicated RAM, and how much would it cost?

I'm just asking because I MAY not have a graphics card that is dedicated to 1 GIG RAM. Also HoI 3 ran OK, but could of been faster, so do you think Victoria II would run the same, if not better? :D

check any of the major retailers, the descriptions of the specs for the graphics cards will list their dedicated memory.

I have an Nvidia Geforce GT 220, with 1 GB dedicated memory that runs on a 400 watt power supply (check what power supply your system uses before you buy a new card, a good number of newer cards require 450 or 500 watt supplies, which is more than many computers that are more than a couple years old have in terms of power supply).

I just asked my dad and he said if our computer can handle HoI 3, it'll be able to handle Victoria II. (we have 3 RAM, or something).

At least I know Victoria II will at least run on my computer. :)

Or, for that matter, cheaper pre-builts, which often have exactly the wattage they need and not a joule per second more!

Important to check your Power Supplies current supply also. My Nvidia Geforce 250 GT recommended around twice as much current as my power supply put out. It offered a lot of wattage(~500W), but the current can be important also, and in some cases more important.

If you are going to check the power specs, don't just look at the input wattage. That's a rather meaningless number.

What you need to look at, is the amps specification on the 12 volt rails on your power supply, and make sure that's equal to, or exceeds the minimum number listed for your graphics card of choice.

If the amps that the power supply delivers is not enough to satisfy the graphics board under full load, the graphics chip will respond by scaling down it's core clock speed. By up to 90% if it has to. And that severely impacts the game speed .... negatively.
