Since it's based on the same engine I would assume the system requirements will be similar. However, since there may be more "daily" calculations made, the CPU or RAM requirements may be a little higher. Only kind of information I can give. I don't think paradox has a good idea on the system requirements just yet.

The best thing you can do for the current generation of Paradox games, I believe, is make sure you have in your system a graphics card that has at least 1 GB RAM dedicated solely to the graphic card. I found I had problems running HoI3 with my older card (an integrated Nvidia 7300, at 512 MB) and once I got the new, self-standing graphics card (I got a Nvidia GT 220, requires only 400 W power supply) the difference was like night and day in terms of game speed and reaction to clicking the interface. The more dedicated memory on your graphics card, the more you main computer RAM can focus on calculating data for the game and not use its RAM for helping to support any graphical elements. 1 Gig RAM dedicated video cards have been around for a while now, and for mine I paid about US$100 or so IIRC back last autumn.

I did pretty much the exact same thing recently (also went from 2.5 RAM to 4 RAM), and I can confirm the difference is enormous. Sure, Magna Mundi still runs slow ;) but I'd be pretty amazed if my PC doesn't cut it for Vicky 2 now.

So what you're saying is... until I buy a new laptop (which could be a while) no Vicky 2 for me... :(

I couldn't say for sure, bhut I think that's a pretty decent one. I'm sure someone will be able to tell you, but remember we haven't actually been told the specs yet.

Maybe you could ask if it would work for HoI3 on that forum, it's a fairly safe bet the game will have roughly the same requirements.

You could download the HoI3 demo and check what kind of speed you get there. Vicky 2 will probably be a little faster than that demo though, since HoI3 have been optimized a lot since we made the demo.

If we make a demo for Vicky 2, that will be a better way of knowing ofc.

Yes, they are built on a similar engine so will have fairly similar specifications. As mentioned above the core HoI3 has under gone some optimisations for the 1.04 patch and those that relate to overlapping code, like the map, have been imported in Victoria 2.

Because it needs a graphics card that is able to do all of the graphic-related stuff on it, without having to use up (and by extension clogging up the lines between the graphics device and motherboard - which would have to be done if some of the data had to be rerouted there) precious RAM/processor cycles (which should be used for AI/other things). GTA engine, on the other hand, still needs to have the bulk of its load done by processor/motherboard memory.

EDIT: That, and there have been quite some optimizations and memory leak fixes in the patches between the demo and the current game.

"Worst Optimized" isn't a term you can just throw around. Unless you've seen the source code and know everything about the work it's doing, it's simply not a judgement that can be made. An application can be perfectly optimized, running at the theoretical maximum possible speed, and still bog down a computer. Slow != poor optimization.
