The current species rights stuff are very cool.

I would like the ability to restrict certain species to certain professions (food, minerals, energy, research)

Then have the various pops migrate/spawn on their own to where there is available work for them

I would like the ability to restrict certain species to certain professions (food, minerals, energy, research)
That would be easily exploitable (set a species to caste system, food and mineral only—congratulations, you now have a slave race that requires less consumer goods than normal).

I do, however, hope that the sector AI will be smart enough to do stuff like put domestic slaves on food tiles and free Pops on energy. Is it smart enough to put Intelligent Pops on labs?

Eh... Not currently, at least.

There have been documented instances of the AI not even being smart enough to place ANY pop - much less the ideal one - on a farm despite the fact that the planet was facing starvation.

Yeah, it was a bit of a silly question. I saw at least one instance of the AI building a farm on a world populated entirely by droids.
