I'm actually not seeing so many of those problems. In my current game -- for testing purposes I always play stock UNE --- the continental worlds are full of humans, plus some ocean-liking species. The desert fans migrated to the savanna worlds, and so forth.
That's the thing - the problem is not with every world, with some. Around 20% of the worlds from my own games. And for the life of me don't get why tho, they all pretty close in job-housing-amenities

The "underrepresented species" get a large bonus which results in the Kettling or other primitive species spreading across the galaxy after they get annexed or come to your empire as refugees. I don't really see the point for that bonus and corrected this by mod ....

The whole growth model is fundamentally weird because the way it works in game is pops don't grow from pops, pops grow from planets. Species distribution is one major issue, but it's not the only one. I liked what they were trying to do with the immigration ties into growth model, but I don't think it really works.

This in my opinion is a serious balance issue that basically make growing wide the real only viable option to grow at all. If population growth would have been more realistic and you needed far less population to exploit natural resources things could be more interesting and strategies a bit more varied.

The species growth model are just absurd... although easily modded.

I feel like population will be overhauled at least once more before the game is finished.

In the meantime I'd like to see a revamped pop template system and a better system for pop mod/ascension.

The problem is that there is only one slot for a pop type (biological and mechanical) to grow. There should be a slot for each species in the empire, with the individual growth rate per species calculated accordingly. Species should grow in parallel, not sequence...

It is absurd that the main species stops growing because another species arrived, even if the growth rate of the new species is higher than the growth rate of the main species.
