Hey guys,

At the moment in my 28k city I have a specialized oil district which used to work really well, however for quite a while now I have run out of oil and I was wondering if there is any point of keeping my district oil specialized or putting it back to non-specialized.

Furthermore I seem to have quite a few of my oil industry claiming that there aren't enough raw materials and some also claiming that they have too many goods! Whereas in my commercial zones some of the level 3 commercial buildings claim that they don't have enough goods. I'm not sure if this is a traffic related problem or not, in my oil industry zone there is loads of traffic due to my cargo train station. What should I do to remove these problems?

yes, once the oil runs out you should remove the specialization. There are mods to make resources infinite.

Your other problems sound like they are traffic related. Its hard to say exactly what you should do without screen shots, other than maybe have a dedicated, unzoned road for your cargo station. Try to keep any random traffic away from it.

Thanks, I'll de-specialize it, I might post some screens later. I'm wondering if the cargo station causes more trouble than it's worth actually as the traffic it causes is huge.

I'll provide a counter point to consider. While specialized industry stops producing its own oil/ore eventually, it still processes imported oil/ore into oil products/metals. This processing increases your tax income from industry. It may just be worthwile to have an oil and ore district nearby to a connection of some sort so that they may import unprocessed materials and then feed those to your manufacturers.

The key is to increase such processors slowly. Keep an Eye on your Import/Export tab. The moment your exported oil/ore reaches a *significant* amount, you know you have outstripped your demand for Oil/Ore. Notice that this WILL NOT reduce traffic issues. In fact, may exacerbate them because now you have two sets of trucks moving around your city. That said, if you can work the traffic, your income increases quite handsomely.

P.S. in my own city, i built this near a harbor and train depot to help facilitate the movement of imported oil/ore. These buildings ONLY need an export connection to other industry so as long as your trains run directly to and from the manufacturers, you should be fine.

I'm wondering if the cargo station causes more trouble than it's worth actually as the traffic it causes is huge.

The cargo train station imports/exports goods from other cities or transfers them to an other station in your city.
If you remove the station, all those goods will still need a transport, so there will be even more trucks/vans on your streets. They will just be in an other part of town and not where the station was.
Now depending on your city, this can make things better. But most of the time it will make them worse.

I suggest a better road connection between your train station and your industry and highways, if this is possible.
