The German gaming magazine Gamestar has released two specials about HoI 3, where they talk about its new features (basically the development diaries in German)

I answered most the question of the Gamestar users over at their forum.

But the article( part 2) also said that Paradox plans to release two UIs, a simple one for beginners and a more complex one for the pros.

Bei Paradox denkt man sogar über zwei Benutzeroberflächen nach, eine simple für Anfänger und eine entsprechend umfangreichere für Profis.

That would be great. Can't wait to see that feature implemented and shown on a screenshot.

Well this goes in line with the mention on Twitter a couple of weeks ago where they decided to overhaul the UI. It's likely the one we see is aimed at the veterens of the series while the new one that is being developed is being aimed at beginners and could follow a similar design to the Rome UI.

If Paradox can pull it through, this could be a fantastic idea. The easy UI for the newbs and the massive-info-UI for the micro loving fans. :)

HOI is for professionals.
If you need to use the simple UI then you don't deserve to own the game and you gotta switch back to Tetris. ;)

If there is possibility to chnge UI then maybe it will be also highly moddable... I see all those user addons for UI that will change the look of the game :rolleyes:
Many games have such possibility - best examples are Elder Scrolls and WoW where you can completely change all elements on your screen... I hope that it will be possible in HoI3.

This was what was said on Twitter:

Sometimes you have to redo an interface completely, to improve playability, and today it is such a day.

You don't create a completely new UI for the whole game in a day, he was clearly talking about one screen only.

Personally, since Gamestar has no different screenshots or other sources of information from what Paradox have made public to us in the forums and to the rest of the media, then I don't think they have got this correct. What they could be referring to is that the game could be played on a broad strategic level, and therefore be reasonably accessible for newbies, or be played much more in-depth by "professionals". But what different UI would there be for Politics for ex? No Laws in the "simple", only in the "pro"? Sorry - I don't believe that for one minute.

Yeah, it's a bad assumption or a translation error - Paradox are fixing/changing their current UI - I can't see why (or how, moreover) they would implement two.

Does this mean I can hope for Victoria II and the return of pop files, realistic trading, factories and the other goodies?!?!

You know an actual difficult game to play. Now to meld it with combat missions for tactical portion of game play and I will be happy. :rofl:

Hmm... maybe the 'simple' level just automaticly uses AI support to the maximum level - doesn't even ask you about it - greatly simplifying the experience while pro unlocks all the AI functions and allows you to turn them on and off? This would fit my definition at least of a simple and pro UI without requiring differences on the screens or actual core portions of the game.
