I have a total of five exams at this stage, finishing my junior year: German, Civil Procedure, Administrative Law (Foreign states), Public International Law, Civil Law (Foreign States). Three are left, the last one is 22nd of June. Then a few days of drinking binge and updates will follow. :D

Bah! What is five exams? I'm having 12 this session, of which 9 are done already (though one has to be repeated, f*ck Polish Constitutional Law :/), and I still find time for myself! :p

Kidding - I'll be waiting patiently for new updates. :)

SUDDENLY, an update

pict4972sm.jpg

October 3, 1943
Bombay, India

- Sir, I suggest we get moving. Staying at the frontline for such a long time is suicide, you should not risk your life!

Lt.General Karaszewicz-Tokarzewski accompanied Popeliucka and his army to Bombay, while Skucas stayed in Delhi, preparing an offensive on Calcutta, the capital of Bengal. Karaszewicz-Tokarzewski wasn't used to Popeliucka visiting the frontline; in addition, he was scared to death by tales of stealthy Sikh snipers picking off the officers one by one; but all he managed to do was persuade Popeliucka to put on a helmet. Reports alone could never satisfy the General's curiosity.

- So you're saying we're all safe in the south of the island?
- Unless the Bengali find a way to navigate the creek to launch an amphibious attack, sir.
- Did they have any ships in the harbour?
- Of course, in fact, the infamous American carrier Louise Michel was anchored here as we entered the city; however, she managed to escape with a retinue of two destroyers - we sank the rest and Admiral Dirmantas is currently en route from Sri Lanka to intercept the carrier; our air forces are fully devoted to keeping track of the ship's course.
- Now that's the news I want to hear. If we have all sides but this one covered by sea, why are you so nervous?
- Well, there were reports of a Bengali force to the south of here, in Pune, large enough to attempt a counter-attack. And we are still in process of re-fortifying the city - also, don't forget we are on an island, the terrain here is horrible - there is barely any space to maneuver, residential areas have streets too narrow for our LTs, and what isn't built-up is covered by mangrove woods and is completely impassable.
- As long as what's impassable to us is the same to Bengali, I see no problem. Let's get back to the headquarters, lest I melt to death...

This time the Lithuanian officers managed to make camp in a barely damaged building, a large palace of some prince which was left untouched by the Syndicalists for some reason. In the luxurious patio, General Karvelis of the Lithuanian Third Armoured lay in the shade, studying a newspaper.
- General Popeliucka! How was the frontline? Still stable?
- Yes, I didn't find any reason to worry, apart from the main one - where are their main forces? We took Delhi and Bombay, and we are yet to encounter any formation over 10 divisions. How did they manage to capture Iraq so fast if they never had a large army?
- I believe they've allocated a lot of men to defence of Calcutta and the Siamese front, sir. No country can fight well on two fronts - except from the Reich, of course. - Karvelis smiled. - Oh, and did you hear the news? I've just received last week's newspaper from Vilnius.
- No, what happened?
- Apparently, His Majesty decided to call an early election.
- What? A year earlier? While half-a-million of his subjects are sweating in India? - Popeliucka asked, surprised.
- The author is just as puzzled as what reasons are behind such a decision, I believe that Smetona finally lost the King's favour.
- I don't think it's all about King's favour, Karvelis...
- Oh yes, yes it is! You know, with our King and all that talk about...
- About what? - inquired Popeliucka.
- Oh, come on, everybody knows that His Majesty, you know, prefers boys to girls...
- What?! - Popeliucka's helmet slided downwards, choking his neck with the strap.
- Well, it's what the people say.
- I don't think I care about what people say, so don't tell me no such things anymore... - Popeliucka replied, shaking his head in embarrassment.

Luckily, the General didn't have to continue the awkward conversation; his translator, Lieutenant Javed Isfahani ran into the patio, holding forth a telegram.
- They did it, they did it, Pan Popeliucka!
- Who did and what?
Isfahani handed the paper to Popeliucka. It was pretty clear.

Very happy so see an update, even a SUDDEN one :).

I think it should be "Staying at the frontline for such a long time is suicide", without the "a" before suicide. And I guess you lost an "y" in Popeliucka's "army" just below ;).

Sorry for being the horrible nitpicker sometimes. Nice writing!
By the way, what does DBF mean in the telegram?

to Enewald:
Totally.
That reminds me, where the heck's Stormbringer gone?

to Karaiskandar:
It was fun chasing the carrier, shame the CSA AI hardly ever gathers large naval formations for whatever reason. They inherited both the French Commune and the British Republican fleets, and yet they just can't send at least a 20-ship strong group out in the ocean, always 3-4 capital ships with barely any screens. Silly of them.

to Emperor_krk:
Corrections applied, thank you! I need to remind myself to check the spelling before posting. Forgot about it.
DBF means "Destroyed By Fire" according to the Phillips Code, a code of telegraph abbreviations.

to Asalto:
Thanks! :D

to Legolas:
We'll see in one of the next updates, next week. :)

November 3, 1943
Ranchi, Bengal

Dear Marta,

I am fully aware of the fact that it has been a few months since you received my last letter. There is not much I can say in my defense, apart from the fact that some rebels in Pakistan have blocked the railroad and therefore, even though I could write you a letter, there would be no chance of you receiving it. Luckily, this problem is beyond us. I still adore you and miss our calm evenings in Rokiškis.

Will we ever see them again, those calm evenings?
Sadly, November brought no change to the local weather, and the troops are fed up with India already. However, we continue our brave offensive; in October, the southern branch pushed the front a few provinces.

screensave12f.png

In addition, somewhere around October 21st our mountaineers took Kathmandu. That city used to be the capital of a small mountainous country called Nepal. Or Bhutan. It's been a while since Bengal steamrolled them, so I can't remember. We still have that Austrian globe at home, right? The one with the lamp inside it?

But the worst news - I believe you have already heard them, everybody's talking about it these days - is the fact that Russians entered the war. On October 8, their special forces crossed the border and poured into Northern Afghanistan, populated by Tajiks and Turkmen. This is one of the silliest casus belli I've ever heard - basically, the Russians claim to be protecting the nations they had conquered the year before. Nonsense, foolish nonsense! I don't know what these Eurasianists are up to. Noone knows, and that's the worst thing about them.

screensave1z.png

Having taken Feyzabad, the Russians stopped some 10 miles away from the Bulgarian lines. Our Bulgarian allies are already scared, not having exchanged a single shot. Should the Russians have continiued their advance, I believe Bulgarians would have abandoned their positions.

Enough with the Russians; even though their activities in the region (God Almighty, Rokiškis is about fifty kilometers from the Russian border, I hope they have finished the fortifications there!) are concerning and inscrutable, I still worry about the Bengali more.

screensave15w.png

The Germans keep supplying us with intelligence reports, and according to their agents, two American armies landed in Calcutta to bolster the final defense of Bengal. I believe, this is the battle we've been expecting for a long time; finally, a duel with a worthy foe. It seems that all the cat-and-mouse chase Dirmantas organized with the CSA navy was but a clever gambit; having sacrificed the ex-French carrier, Americans managed to distract our Navy and the German naval aircraft long enough to ship some 20 divisions in here.

God, I hate chess so much...

And what is most nerve-wracking, we're almost out of fuel! Can you imagine? We've always had more than enough supplies; surplus petrol was used here and there to make our offensives more effective. And yesterday, an explosion rendered our oil wells in Abadan, Persia, out of action! It's going to take up to three months to repair the damage, and in the meanwhile, some fuel will be shipped to us by rail. I'm not sure if this will be enough. I wrote the Germans - as destructive as our troops are, we simply lack the resources (and manpower too, darn it) to execute a successful siege of Calcutta - it is fortified like Kiev. Germans are silent. They reply with intelligence reports alone - not a single comment. This is unnerving.

screensave10.png

1465 units of oil? Seriously?! I used to have 20k or something. How am I going to organise offensives now?

Prime Minister Smetona wrote me a letter, congratulating me for Bombay; he claims that we are going to receive new tanks and aircraft soon. The Republican Chinese decided to buy Russian aircraft - Ilyushin Il-10 Bestie. I won't tire you with the technical characteristics, in a nutshell, that plane is much better than anything we or even the Germans have.

*the letter ends without a conclusion*
