Monty had a slip of tongue here. Concerning UoB military commanders, I can understand why some nobles are there - in OTL, a few Russian nobles and top military elite quickly swore allegiance to the Reds, but Montgomery, born into a religious family, a combat veteran, wouldn't follow the Union politicians and their orders. It doesn't fit in my picture of him.
However, Aleksei Brusilov, the mastermind behind the only successful Russian operation of WW1, chose to fight for the Reds when excrements hit the ventilation in 1917, even though he was a staunch monarchist...
