Playing as Spain in the big campaign, I get the "Give Malta to the Knights of St. John" event. My choices are give them Malta, or not. I choose no, because I am playing a very mean Spain.
As a result, I get 3 groups of 650,000 ships in my ports. (Thats a round number. I cant tell exactly how many it because it is to hard to remember.) This is incredibly amusing, because the support cost for a fleet like that is higher than the entire economy of the world can support! Of course, I pause the game before the end of the month, saving me from bankruptcy, and disband myself down to a more reasonable, and afordable, 100 warships.
This HAS to be a bug! Further, it is a nasty exploit in the game engine, since it is essentially a free "Armada" event for Spain, giving them a whole new fleet. For the AI, it is economic suicide if the AI chooses this option 15% of the time, because I dont think the AI is fast enough to disband the ships before it bankrupts several times in a row.
