The question is not if the republic or nationalist forces were better or worse during the civil war or if either side would support or ally with either the Axis or the Allies.
For their colonies, I rather doubt they would get any of their former colonies back after an eventual win of the Axis and a siding with it shortly befor the war ends. The Philipines were in the sphere of influence of Japan and I doubt that a Greater German Reich would hamper the relations with Japan and hand over the Philipines to Spain. I can imagine that there would be an extension in northern Africa from what was french territory then, but thats about it. All other lost colonies or territories were too far off or already gone for too long to get a real foothold in any of them.
