Thanks to the latest patch, the civil war is unwinnable, due to the fact that Communist spain AI is so bad it allowed it'self to be completely encircled and didnt hold any fronts at all, and my units that I've sent as the soviet union for some reason unable to do any proper push at all because due to the new supply mechanic and somehow Nationalist spanish divisions gotten so much stronger than what it used to be before the patch, thanks for the unneeded nerf paradox, you made Soviet union playthrough less fun now.

There are a lot of mountains in Spain, which limits the usefulness of your tanks. It's likely better to send your Mountaineers with artillery a bunch of artillery and support AA.

it is the best to train your tank divisions in Spain. But Soviet start with tank deficits. You will need to disband some tank division at home to have tank for divisions in Spain.

Almost all quick losing case is having no AA vs enemy with CAS: China, Poland, France... Even at China communist I have to research and make AA now.

The trick is to send anything with SPAA now. Cheapest version with 10 armour. 36 pieces each.

It definitely is winnable however, your chance of winning mostly depends on which Spain screws up the most, in my case yesterday, they always had troops for the front. In the case for last week, they left blatant holes for the enemy to exploit and encircle them...

What nation did you use?
The USSR, but any major could do it. If you don't have enough rifles, just disband some infantry divisions to get them. The Ethiopians start making new divisions as soon as they get the weapons, so they can end up actually outnumbering the Italians. The hardest part is to prevent them from collapsing until they have the time to make them, but some CAS and armoured divisions to help them is enough.

Just wanted to add, that much of the advice above has worked for me. If you look at the Communist Spain divisions, you may notice that the brown bar seems to stay low. If you lend lease rifles to them they will start to hold much better. Your divisions will tip the tide in your favor, especially if you upgrade them. It might be helpful to give your divisions in Spain highest priority for replacement equipment. That option is on the Theatre bar, if you did not know already.

The trick is to make sure that you gain xp for doctrines and experience for your commanders without losing your units.

Let's Spain join Allies if they want. xp for tank divisions is great. No new tank is better than a veteran tank. Also it is satisfy to bleed the German, Italy and Jap early! :)

Theres a decision to flip Spain Communist which puts it down the Stalinist path if you win preventing this. it req 60% communism but if the war drags on which it should now due to supplies dragging the war out a little longer.

It’s the anarchists. Once that event fires the Republican AI doesn’t haven enough divisions to manage a frontline and the war is over in less than a month. It’s very sad playing as the Allied and seeing the Spanish civil war end in ‘37 :(. If you are pro-Soviet player you may be able to get some nice encirclements in the south and rush to Cadiz and Seville before the anarchists to give the republicans a tiny chance of winning. Also you have to lend-lease the republicans planes, oil, guns and trucks if you want them to survive.


I think the anarchist event should have been treated the same as the carlists, it should only fire if the republicans make a mistake or if a player

Exactly. I have won yesterday SCW for the republicans as a Portugal, but we had a few very hard moment after anarchist uprising. My few advices:
- send volunteers as quickly as You can - time is not in Your site, because You want making gains before anarchist mess;
- use infantry - in Spain is a lot of mountains here, so tanks will be trash;
- look, where spanish AI removes unplanned offence - it will be wasting of time, if You will try to push there, where this modifier is active;
- try to cut spanish in half first - portugese border is a good choice;
- encircle and destroy german and italian volunteers - I'm not sure, but I think, that when You defeat first units, AI will never send another guys;
- send some lend-lease.
I have won this without air, but if I had some CAS, probably things would be faster - SCW ended in the middle of 1938, but I was Portugal and I had my own civil war ;)

I agree. I don't know this history very well, but I heard, that in reality anarchist uprising was mutch, mutch smaller then in the game.
