Every time I try to play as Germany I set Spain to either goes Falangist or Francoist and mid way through the civil war, I get carlist uprisings and it traps my volutneers in areas where they can't get supply. On my last game, I set it for Spain to go Falangist but it goes nationalist and even selected Martyrdom for Primo, effectively ensuring there won't be a Falangist outcome.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I think the four way mechanic is unfair to players that send volunteers because it can spring up without warning and trap volunteer divisions with no means to fight their way to a port for supply. It wouldn't be so bad if you could withdrawal volunteers at will but the game doesn't allow that.

For the nationalists to avoid a split they have to 1.) be Francoist - going Falange will cause a nationalist split since they are too secular 2.) the nationalists have to be winning enough to go down their middle tree and delay and eventually remove the Carlist uprising.

How far down the tree do they have to be? What conditions of the war does it have to be? The last time, it was just the northern portion of the country that successfully rebelled and a small pocket down the southern coast was crushed.

it’s the unity the nationalist front section of the tree-I believe the nationalists are scripted to beeline it.
you need to do fuse the parties focus, and I believe Toledo is necessary to do an earlier focus

I’m playing as Germany and intervening in the war. I have no control over Spain’s focus tree choices. This is why I wrote the frustrated post because these new gameplay choices make intervention more risky and very unfair as it happens without warning and your volunteers can get cutoff quickly.

The AI will never let the carlists spawn on Historical unless the war is going badly and they cannot fulfill the conditions, it's correct the Carlists will always spawn if the Falangist focus branch is taken

you don't NEED toledo, capturing it just gives you a free focus
