Greetings all. This is not only my first AAR; this is too my first post in this forums, he he he ;).

I've been lurking on the boards reading some wonderful AARs (Ariel, your British campaign is really impressive WTG!), and now I decided to start a campaign on my own and do the proper AAR so you can all see how good (er...bad :D) I am.

Yes,yes I know...Spain is very powerful, few challenge, etc. Well, in fact is not as easy, mostly because all Europe is looking at you with lots of hate, he he he.

Ok...I will start right now with the prelude. This is done in 1.08, with the modified great campaign downloaded from the Scenario depot. Excuse my bad english (I'm spanish)... and enjoy!.
-----------------------------------------------

After a long time, I finally achieved my dream: I am the Spanish chancellor, I, in the name of Their Majesties, The Catholic Kings, Isabel and Fernando, will guide my glorious nation into glory.

I have a map in my study, and I look it with attention. My mind is working, I have to set up a plan. My first goal, is to finally take Granada and annex it into the Spanish realm. My second goal is to secure my European posessions, and even increase them by the means of war and politics.

Granada will be easy, I have a powerful army ready to march south and take it by force. What wont be so easy, I realize, is to secure my posessions in the center of Europe. Franche Comte is almost impossible to defend against a determined french attack, and even my posessions in Flandres are seriously threatened by the french ambitions.

Now I turn my eyes into the Mediterranean. The Balearic islands, Malta, Sardinia and Sicily are under my direct rule, while Napoles is my vassal. I feel concerned. Either I work in Northern europe to defend my posessions there, or I work in the mediterranean against the threat the heathen Turks will surely mean for my posessions.

But my nation is powerful, has lots of resources. Not only that but has will for achieving glory. Is my task to use those assets to create a powerful army and an invincible navy to crush those who dare to challenge our power.

There is yet another work for me. Last months, an italian has been in the court asking the Queen to help him finding a westwards way to find the Indies. He wants to reach Cathay sailing west...he is surely mad, he will fall when he reaches the border of the world. But then again, what will happen if he is right?. Cathay is a rich nation, and we will crush the ambitious Venetians trade and beat the overconfident Portuguese newly founded trade empire if we find a direct way to reach China...Maybe this Italian, named Cristobal Columbus, can in fact give us a priceless chance to get even richer!...

It is January 1492...And I am ready.

First moves. January 1492- January 1499

January 1492: My first action is to search for more allies to hold France's ambitions. I try with Lorraine, and much to my joy, They agree joining my alliance.

Our army, of 31000/3000/2 marches south towards Granada. A smaller army, 4000/2000 marches towards Murcia to keep the province secure as it has no fortifications.

I order Columbus to move towards the Canary islands so he can move west from there.

I order 8000 infantrymen to train in Flandres while 2000 horsemen are getting ready at Hainaut.

7-January. The foolish moors of Granada are moving west. Maybe they plan to siege andalucia?. If they plan to do it, that favors me. I order my troops to delay their movement so they arrive on Granada after the moors have left the province.

23-January. The moor army sieges Andalucia. Poor fools, I am on a brink to reach Granada...

1-February 1492: The King orders me to conquer Lyonnais. Tough objective, because I pretended not to get into problems with France too soon...

Sierra Nevada gets sieged. Soon Granada will be ours.

22-February. Columbus reaches the Canary islands. I order him to move westwards. If he was wrong in his affirmation of the earth being spheric he will soon fall into the immensity of the Space....

The Palatinate offers us a royal Marriage. Perfect, everything that means Spain being a friend of France's enemies is good for me, so I accept.

March 1492: a force of 5000 moor levies are raised on Sierra Nevada, but my army soon puts them on retreat, their path is north, towards Toledo. I order a part of my army to keep the siege of Sierra Nevada while I move west to assist Andalucia, wich walls are seriously weakened (-2)

Austria invites us into a royal marriage. We are more than happy to accept it.

3-April. Big battle on Andalucia. The spanish troops (19800/1500/2) clash with the moors (13000/1550). I have no doubts on how will this end...will be victory for us, of course.

6-April. Damned heathens!!! just as I was getting the upper hand on the battle, the leavies I put on retreat on Sierra Nevada (wich moved to Toledo and now seem to have turned back to Andalucia) arrived into the scene and put my army on the retreat!!

I've lost some 4500 infantry man and almost 1000 horsemen. Even worse I lost both artillery guns. Moor losses are not light either, I estimate they lost some 8000 men and 500 horsemen. But andalucia's walls are very weakened...

Crimea and Russia declared war on Kazan.

1-May 1492. Andalusia is still resisting, but barely (-4). My retreating army is moving towards Toledo so I recalled my troops from Murcia into Sierra Nevada. I will assault the city (wich now is -2) and take it before I lose Andalucia.

The levies in Flandres and Hainaut are ordered to move to Artois. I order a further 4000/1000 to be raised.

Also, I send an ambassador To the Palatinat, and I achieve them joining our glorious alliance. France is going to have more than a headache if they want to attack Spain...

7-May, Murcia army reaches to SIerra Nevada. The assault starts, but they fail to take the city. Our assaut hurts the heathens wich lose 500 men for the loss of less than 100 spaniards. But Andalusia is in a very bad shape...If it falls the war will last much longer than expected.

1-June 1492. With the morale a bit recovered, I order my main army units, now in toledo, to atack Andalucia again. We'll see if they arrive in time, and if they can put the moors on the retreat..

19 June. My army arrives into Andalusia (13500/290 spanish vs 9500/3050 moors) and wins a glorious battle. 4500 infantrymen and 800 moor horsemen die for insignificant losses in our side...

July 1492. I send a diplomat to my Vassals on Naples to join our alliance. They refuse. This incredible negative to join us should be answered with a strong measure...but for now we wont say a thing.

Genoa tries to arrange a royal marriage with us. I accept it.

The heathen moors arrive to Toledo after fleeing from Andalucia. They are too few, and I want them to be distracted there. So I will let them there unless the fortress is threatened.

September 1492. After one month of almost no activity, the walls at Sierra Nevada suffer a serious blow when we mine them (-6)...the city will be soon ours...

An ambassador from Grenada comes and tries to arrange a peace...asking for 136d. We laugh.

5-October 1492. Kazan is fully annexed by Russia.

The walls of Sierra NEvada suffer yet another blow (-7). But they are taking too much time already.

7-NOvember 1492. Columbus is in the middle of the atlantic, suffering from some attrition. I call him back to the Canary Islands...so far he hasnt found the border of the earth nor fallen into the space.

17-NOvemver 1492. This is a proud and glorious day for the Catholic cause!. SIerra Nevada has fallen, and Grenada is annexed to Spain!!!

I call my fleet from Galicia to Murcia. I will send the strongest part of my army to Catalonia to keep an eye on Navarra and France, and I will send the rest (some 8500 infantrymen) to Sicily to garrison it.

1-January-1493. The taxes give us 272d. Wonderful. I invest to create tax collectors in my two richest provinces, Toledo and Andalucia, while I fortify Murcia.

1-February 1493. I order 4000 infantrymen and 2000 horsemen on Flanders. They will move south towards Artois as soon as they are ready.

17-february: the fleet reaches murcia. I order the army there (8500infantrymen) to embark. I offer a royal marriage to Lorraine and they accept.

4-March 1493: Columbus arrive to the Canary islands. I immediatly order him west as soon as he has embarked fresh food and water.

Crimea and Russia now declare war on the Golden Horde.

I notice the French are fortifying Ile de France and Lyonnais. Definitely I wont be able to fullfit the task of conquering Lyonnais on time...I hope that my success in Granada saves me from being beheaded!

9-June. The Royal Fleet (8/15/2) reaches Messina and deploys the troops there. I recall the warships and transports to Spain but I let the galleys there.

8-August. Columbus was right!!! at least in part. His fleet located today a group of islands, and even landed on one to claim that land as the Kings' of Spain property. He called this first island as 'San Martin'. So far they have no knowledge on what is there in those islands, nor if it is Cathay or another land. But definitely that is a conquerable territory!!! I order him to move SoutWest and keep on exploring.

9-September. Poland-Lithuania and the Hanseatic League declare war on the Teutonic order.

12-November. The Golden horde pacts a peace with Russia, The Golder horde pays 9d to the russians. Few compensation for a costly war.

7-December. Columbus discovers Puerto Rico, but his fleet starts to feel the attrittion. Still all islands, although discovered, are terra incognita. I order Columbus back to the Canary islands.

That same day the Heathen Turks declared war on the Mameluks. Fine with me, let the Heathens die in their own wars.

1-January 1494. Taxes gives us 308d, wich added to the previous money we already had in the arks, is a total of 392d . Wonderful. I call for a Tax collector in Flandes and build fortifications in Extremadura. I build a 8000/2000
in Flandres. That leaves us with 84d. After sending merchants, that ammount is decreased to 47d.

France is fortificating Champagne (where they already have a 27000 men army) and Guyenne. Those bastards...I'm sure they are planning something.

1-March. One of my closest collaborators in the Army gives me a wonderful new. We now have found easy ways to use the artillery on the field, so we can build it on our own. THe downside is that those weapons are really expensive. Still I plan to add them into my armies as soon as possible.

2-May. Columbus reaches the Canary islands. He has lost one ship on the trip due attrition, but the new lands discovered make up for that loss. I order him to return to the New World as soon as possible.

9-July. I see the 27000 french men on Champagne moving south...where are they going?...maybe to get positions to jump on the Framche comte?

13-July. Another 26500 men french army is moving westward in Languedoc. My alarm is increasing. I call for 2000 infantrymen to be built in Catalonia.

3-August. Seems that the Evil Turk has received a severe beating...today a peace is signed between them and the Mameluks, where they give up 250d.

1-September. The 27000 men coming from Champagne are on Languedoc now, moving East. I bet they go to the Provence, to get ready to siege Milan as soon as the war starts. THe other 26500 men are moving towards Bearn. I order my army at Catalonia to move to Gerona. Those mountains will help me in the defence.

I try to get more members into our alliance. Thuringen, Hessen ,Babaria, Baden, even the powerful Austria...but all answer 'no'. Seems that they want to stay clear of the now clearly incoming war.

1-December. Today is a happy day for all the Catholic community, as Andalucia converted to the True Faith. Now if only Sierra Nevada converts too...

1-January 1495. 308d again, total of 348d. I call for massive army buildings in Catalonia (8000/2000) and Flanders (2000 men and 20 cannons)

Colonna is put in command of the armies in Gerona. Cordoba gets the command of the army at Artois. Both are awesome generals.

Manuel I rises to the Portuguese throne.

the french now are fortifying Boulogne

4-august...calm. Nothing. Is strange...

Columbus reaches the Canary islands after yet another trip full of discoveries. This time he lost its second ship so I order him back to andalucia. His next trip will happen when a Conqueror is ready to get the glory of colonizating the New World.

1-January 1496. A long, long, peaceful year has gone by. Nothing has happened, strange as it may seem. I collect 309d, this time for a total of 342d. I start fortifying Flandres and Gerona. I send an expensive, beautiful arab horse to the king of Britain, son of the one wich once was owned by the king of Granada, Boabdil
The english King seems unimpressed, though, and only a moderately increase on our relations is seen (from -104 to -89). Barbarian...I'm sure that he can't see the difference between a pony and an arab horse.

Also I receive news that our infrastructure and trade is now in High renaissance,so now we can build refineries and set up trading posts.

1-August. Our navies will be fitted from now onwards with better guns (Tech advance 'early guns').

11-September. Milan offers us a Royal marriage. Of course, I accept the proposal of our ally.

January-1 1497. Calm. Nothing happened. Im starting to get nervous, but I wont invest more in building armies. I, still, start building a fortress at Estramadura, just in case that Portugal attacks, and improve too the one at Luxemburg.

1-February. The king is seriously disgusted when he realices that we have not conquered Lyonnais. He looks at me,and my neck, in anger but for this time he is clement. Now he gives me the mission to keep the Franche Comte in Spanish hands. Not easy, but much more feasible. I hope, because he clearly told me that my life is at stake on this one.

I arrange a royal marriage between Spain and Portugal.
This should make me feel calmer. In a normal situation, If france attacks I wont have to wage a 2-front war. But while assisting to the wedding I also notice that Navarra has allied itself with Portugal, while I was sure they would allign with the evil french.

That is both good and bad,Good because steals France a good ally, but bad because I am sure that when the war starts between france and Spain, Navarra will jump on us at the first chance...so dragging portugal with them into the war. Damn.

11-September. After a long long, period with no activity the Uzbeks declare war on Sibir. This time with no activity is starting to get me angry...Maybe I should attack first?

8-October. Hans rises to the Swedish trhone. Far away from here and not related with Spanish interests. Bah.

1-January 1498. 309d of tax income. Another year, no war. Ok. My plan is ready. if by 1-january of the next year the war has not started I will start it on my own. I fortify Euskadia and Aragon, and I build a 5000 men /20 cannon army in Catalonia.

I arrange a Royal marriage with Venice and try again to get Austria into my alliance. I succeed in the first, but again I fail in the second...

23-january. after a long long war, the Teutonic order arranges a peace with Poland-Lithuania. Welikia is now into Teutonic hands.

9-April. Louis XII rises to the throne in France. I divide my army at Gerona. The biggest part (22000/4500) will remain there, while 3000 men will move to Aragon. The 5000men and 20 guns from Catalonia will join this force at Aragon as fast as they can. This will be both a siege force and a reserve force, in case Navarra attacks. The forces under Collonna will beat first the French army at bearn and then hit hard to the Navarrese army if the dare to declare war at us.

I arrange the troops in a similar way at Artois. 7000 men and 20 cannons will be the force to siege Ile de france, while 19000/7000 troops will remain under Cordoba's orders.

8-June. My nation starts to feel the need to get glory in the New world. Colonial dynamism has provided my nation with 3 fresh warships with 3000 men under the command of a valiant man, our first conqueror. I order those forces to move from Baleares -where they have shown up- to Andalusia where they will join Columbus and move to the New world again.

1-July. Nivernais is being fortified by france, and 25000 men are now in Champagne. I am sure that the new French king knows I'm about to strike.

6-September. Columbus starts the trip to the New world with Alicantarra, our glorious conqueror, 3000 men and 4 warships.

1-January 1499. Ojeda waits my command,my second Conqueror. Pinzon is in Netherlands, waiting for my command. I order him to go to andalusia, where he will get Ojeda and move to the New World.

As I dont want Pinzon's fleet to be disturbed on the way to Spain, I'll delay my declaration of war until May.

In the meantime I start raising one 8000/2000 armie at Catalonia and another of 6000/2000 at Flandres as reserves for the incoming war.

7-March. Columbus arrives to Puerto Rico. I order the troops to land on the Island

1-May. Finally. War starts, at a big cost to me (-3 stability, wich now is at level 0)...but I will make up for this cost.France, The Papal states, Savoy, and Scotland against Milan, Palatinate, Lorraine and Spain. The english dishonored the alliance. Shame on them ,but I dont mind.

The big Spanish-France war. May 1499-May1501.

1-May-1499. I order Cordoba (18900/6900) to move to Champagne to fight the french army there. The just raised army in Flandres (6000/2000) is ordered to move towards Ile de France, and join the (7000/0/20) army already on the way there.

In spain, I order Colonna (21900/4500) to move to Bearn and fight the French army there, and the (8000/2000) army on Catalonia to move to Gerona where they will meet the (8000/0/20) army moving from Aragon.
Columbus just reached Puerto Rico. I order Alicantara to disembark on the island.

16-May. Big, enormous clash on Champagne when Cordoba's 18900/6900 army engages Foix's 16700/8700.

20-May. While the battle is raging at Champagne, Colonna's army reaches Bearn when the French army has already moved out. I send the troops to follow the coward french army.

21-May. Ile the France is Besieged.

22-May. France sues for peace if we give them 8 ducats. We laugh at them. Champagne's battle is going very well. Cordoba's troops have already killed almost 9000/1800 french. Victory is at hand.

25-May. VICTORY!!! Champagne is under siege after an anihilation battle wich has ended with almost 16500 death in the French side, for 2300/600 on our side. I let a sieging force in Champagne and order Cordoba's army (6700/2800 after leaving the sieging force behind) follow the French withdrawing army.

1-June. The troops from Flandres reach Ile de France. Paris is under a tight siege.

3-June. Pinzon reaches Andalucia. Ojeda boards the ships and sets sail to America.

6-June. Colonna reaches Roussillon just as the french army has left. Tough luck. I keep on following the french army. This time into the Languedoc. I also order the army in Gerona (15800/2000/20) to advance towards Bearn.

10-June. Cordoba's army (6700/2800) fights in Nivernais against the french army wich fleed from Champagne (0/1430). Seems that Foix lost much more men than what I think at first, maybe when he started retreating...

12-June. After a brief battle and 400 horsemen dead, the french army retreats. Our army has standed no loses, and now is commited to the siege of Nivernais.

21-June. Finally Colonna's army (20500/4200) has catched the french army in Langedoc. The french is a powerful force (19000/4400) but I trust in Colonna's skills to win the battle.

24-June. Seems I trusted too much on Colonna. After a good start, the tables turned swiftly against us. My troops are ordered to retreat, losing some 6000 men (5000/1000) on the meantime. The french have lost some 2500 troops between horsemen and infantrymen.

1-July. Bearn is sieged by troops coming from Gerona. I order some of them (5200/650/7) to move to Rousillon, to meet the army fleeing from Languedoc. Alicantara disembarks on Puerto Rico and fights the natives there present while Columbus is ordered back to the Canary islands.

6-July. 19000 just raised leavies try to break the siege of Paris. They will fail miserably.

8-July. Paris siege is on place, but at the cost of 2500 troops. The french has lost 3000 troops and is retiring. I raise the montly income, I need fresh money to raise more units.
Alicantara is victorious on Puerto Rico. I am ready to send colonists there as soon as I can.

24-July. After the troops coming from bearn reach Rausillon, Colonna's army (now 18500/3500) is ordered to move into Languedoc again.

1-August. With the montly income, now I have 26d, enough to raise 2000 infantrymen in Artois. I order it to be done.

3-August. Big battle in the dauphine. 30000 troops from the Palatinate and Lorraine meet the french army, 21000 men strong.

8-August. Ile de France's walls are breached (-1). Champaigne and Nivernais stand OK ((1) each one, but those have no siege guns to fire). Bearn is OK for now (2).
Languedoc is put under siege by Colonna. The battle on the Dauphine is finally won by the Palatinat/Lorraine force but at a heavy cost. Some 10000 men of my allies have died in this battle, while the french seem to have lost some 4000.

22-August. the Hanseatic league, Poland lithuania and Hannover declare war on Courland.

28-August. Champagne's walls are seriously damaged (-3). Good. In Nivernais my troops are not able to siege anymore because lack of numbers. However, the army stays there guarding the fortress.

2-September. 12000 leavies just raised attack my army at Languedoc. They are very green, though. I dont think we will have much problem.

5-september. just as planned. We got 50 losses, for 150 on their army. They are fleeing now.

9-september. Yet another 13000 infantrymen attack Languedoc. This time they come from Guyenne, and are more experienced. Still, we should win this battle.

21-September. Just as planned, the enemy is in retreat. in the Provence 13000 french are fighting 16000 palatinat and Lorraine men.

26-September. Champagne walls are about to go down (-6). 13000 men from the Papal states siege Milan, and 17000 french men are on Savoy moving towards Milan aswell.

27-September. a french army (16000/1000) relieves Champagne just when it was about to fall. I ordered my troops to retreat south where they will meet Cordoba.

1-October. Provence is another victory for the Palatinat and Lorraine. The french army moves south from Champagne. There, Cordoba awaits.

17 October. Cordoba wins a glorious victory over the French men. Cordoba's army (15000/6200) meet the french forces (15500/900), but the spanish forces have their morale a bit shaken. At the end of the battle only for 200 losses the french army loses almost all its power. I order the victorious forces north to restart the siege of Champagne.

15-November. Languedoc walls are seriously hit (-3). Courland is annexed by Poland-Lithuania. Milan is sieged by 32000 papal/french forces, and is about to fall...damnit.
13000 Palatinat-Lorraine forces are fighting 3000 savoyese men in Savoy...but 29000 french are on the way to help.

22-November. I order a colonist to establish our first colony at Puerto Rico. Pinzon's fleet arrives to the new world and I order Ojeda to land in St Thomas

7-December. Ile the France's walls are taking too long to fall. they are a bit more damaged now (-4), tough.

15-December. Languedoc is about to fall. Our fire has caused their walls to suffer massive damage (-7)

27-December. 8000 frenchment set a siege on Franche Comte. 12000 men from the Palatinate come from Alsace, I have no doubt that they will relieve our fortress.

1-January 1500. 280d of tax income. Balboa waits for my command. I order him to move to Andalucia. I also order 40 cannons to be built in Flandres.

2-January. Paris has fallen!!!!. Its a great new that means that now the French are on our hands. We order the forces at Paris to move towards NIvernais.

3-January. France offers us a white peace. We laugh.

6-January. Russia,Crimea, Ryazan and Denmark declare war on Astrakhan and Golden Horde. The palatinat 12000 men force reaches the Franche Comte and the batte starts. 72000 men siege milan wich is on a brink to fall. Nice is under siege by 12000 palatinat and lorraine forces.

12-January. Incredible as it may seem ,the french force at the Franche comte was put the 12000 men of The Palatinate on the run. The siege is on its place, but the walls are just fine (3)

18-January. Miracles exist. At least for Milan. Just as the french siege forces left the siege of Milan, and moved West (so letting Milan alone to be conquered by the Papal states), the Milanese achieved peace with the Papal states in exchange for 250 ducats. Milan is still at war with France. Our ally has not been annexed. We thank god for it.

20 January. French troops start assaulting the Franche Comte. Ojeda lands on St thomas and fights a native force, wich is promptly wiped out. I send a Colonist to St Thomas too.

6-February. The same force wich took Paris, has now started a siege at NIvernais.

10-February. Languedoc has fallen. I order the troops to stay on the spot until Bearn falls too.

1-March. Sicily has so far had no problems but just to ensure the 8100 men force there is secure, I order 3000 horsemen to be raised in Messina.

3-March. 10000 Papal troops arrive on the Franche comte, to help the 7000 french troops already there. The walls still are intact (3)

4-March. Nice, wich still is besieged by Palatinate and Lorraine forces, suffers damage to their walls. We hope our allies can take it soon. Our troops in Bearn use massive artillery to damage the walls (-6) It wont be long before we control this province.

10-March. 44000 Savoy-French forces move west from Dauphine. Just as a prevention I order my army at Languedoc to move back into Rousillon.

12-March. Golden Horde sues for peace. Voronezh and 9ducats are given to Russia in exchange.

2-April. Bearn falls, and I order my army there to move to Gerona. 9000 palatinate troops fight 7000 french troops at Bourgogne. France tries to win peace by giving us Langedoc and Bearn, but my plans are different. Champagne suffers damage to its walls (-2).

10-April. A little french army (1000 men) lands in Messina. We soon wipe them out. I order my 15 galleys there to set sail to fight the ships wich have brought the troops. The Palatinat army wins on Bourgogne and pursues the fleeing french army.

25-April. the cannons I ordered to be built at Flanders are in commission. I order them to move into Champagne to accelerate the fall of this province.

7-May. Champagne walls suffer some more damage (-4). Franche Comte starts to show the fatigue of a long siege and its walls are reduced to 0.

15-May. Nice is about to fall to Palatinate forces. Colonna (25500/4100/19) starts moving towards Savoy. Our fleet is ordered to move into the Cote D'azure.

25-May. 45000 french men are moving towards Franche Comte. We shiver. Our fleet reaches the Cote D'azure where it engages 14 French galleys. We have one more ship but they win the wind advantage so we flee before losing any ships.

13-June. France tries to win peace again in return for Bearn and Languedoc. It is not enough as our plans call for much more than that. Nice has fallen into Palatinate hands.

15-June. Much rejoice when we receive the great news of the first Colony on the New world. Puerto Rico will be now the base for our further expansion on the New World. WE immediatly dispatch another colonist there, and order Columbus into port. Pinzon just arrived Andalucia and will carry balboa to the New world. France has now 61000 troops into the Franche Comte and its walls suffers a serious blow (-3)

21-June. Champagne walls suffer a serious blow when the flanders guns reach position (-6). Battle in Bourgogne between 11000 lorraine men and 7000 french troops. Nivernais is also quite damaged (-3), and we see with much rejoice how 10000 french troops perish due attrition on the siege of the Franche Comte.

1-August. Framche Comte falls into Papal hands, this venture has costed the French and Papal forces almost 16000 men only by atrittion. France asks peace in exchange for Bearn. Our laughter is heard in Paris.

7-August. Champagne falls. We send the 40 guns south to help in the Siege of Nivernais.

14-August. We notice that 38000 troops from the Franche comte head now for Nivernais. We order all our troops at Champagne to move south and help the sieging forces. Cordoba is detached with 1000 horsemen to reach the province as soon as is possible. We rejoice when we hear that St Thomas has been colonized. We immediatly send another colonist to increase our presence there.

25-August. Savoy is sieged by Colonna, and we immediatly launch an assault. Cordoba and his 1000 horsemen reach Nivernais. The bulk of the army is only some days behind him, and a bit behind, the 40 siege guns.

28-August. all the army is at Nivernais, but the 38000 french men weren't heading there, but to Lorraine. The walls of nivernais are at -5 and we have 60 siege guns. We launch an assault on the city.

20-September. NIrvernais falls to our troops, but Savoy seems that will take a bit longer. We have caused them almost 5000 losses, but 5000 more resist. We let there a siege force and move out the rest not to suffer too much losses due attrition.

1- October. Sibir surrenders Orsk and Tenghiz to the Uzbeks in the peace they sign.

30-October. A french army of 21800 men and 27 guns attack our army at nivernais, under Cordoba's command, consisting of 19000 men, 6700 horsemen and 57 cannons. We should wipe them out of the surface of the Earth.

10-November. Just as we were about to crush the enemy army, a relieving force of 2600 horsemen arrives. Too late for their morale is really low. We have taken some 1000 loses but they have got more than 4000. A second assault starts at Savoy.

15-November. The french army is crushed at Nivernays as planned. messina is under attack by 6000 Papal states horsemen. our 8000 men and 3000 horsemen there try to defend the province. The fleet sails to find the papal navy

25-NOvemver. All enemy 6000 horsemen at messina are crushed. We loss 2500 infantrymen. Our fleet is in pursuit of the Papal fleet. Savoy assault has caused 2500 losses to the defenders for almost none in exchange. One or two assaults more and Savoy will be spanish.

1-January 1501. 247d of tax. Poland has a new King, with an almost unpronuntiable name. This year surely will see our crushing victory over France. The assault on Savoy is resumed.

6-January. I order troops to land in Jamaica. We need to put a foothold there to start yet another colony. Savoy is almost defeated.

15-January. Savoy falls, and is annexed by Spain. We inherit a fleet of (2/14/1) wich is sent to Messina . Nice goes for The palatinate. I order 8000men and 2000 horsemen to be raised at Flandres. I offer France peace in exchange for Languedoc, Nivernais and Champagne but its rejected. The forces in Savoy move now towards france again. We will crush those fools!

17-January. We put a foothold at Jamaica and we kill all the natives there. We promtply send a colonist there, wich is folowed by another to St Thomas wich is now populated by 200 men.

12-March. we put Dauphine under siege.

15-March. France sues for peace. They give up Bearn, Champagne and Nivernais. We would like Languedoc more, but Bearn is fine with us. The Papal States are still at war with us, but I send Cordoba to retake it.

14-May. Franche Comte is sieged. We set up the assault, we want to end this war the sooner the better.

25-May. We retake our lost province and, finally, The pope agrees to reach a white peace.

Our net wins are Savoy, Bearn, Champagne and Nivernais. Finally we will be able to defend the Franche comte. Our forces have cut, aswell, any expansion vector by france into Germany.

Crushing Victory, wich the King receives with SAtisfaction. He gives me the title of Viscount and some lands in the conquered provinces.

The first phase has been a complete success...

Be careful

Maybe it is easy at the beginning, but when four powers will be against you, and the rebels arise up everywhere, you will not enough money to maintain the provinces.
I have never finished a game until 1792: In 1700, only there are a couple of provinces here and there. (Please, don't cheat)

RAM,

I like that you have started a Spainish AAR, I've enjoyed reading the start of your GC.

But hey, aren't you very aggressive at the beggining? :)
I bet that now after the war Spain is not liked very much by other countries, including some of your allies as they didn't get anything to earn from this war (well, except Palatinate that got Nice). And you get wars and annexation of Aztecs and Incas in the future that are much more important that these 3 provinces in Europe.

Now that France has Casus Belli against you for owning 3 of their provinces, they will attack you every moment they will see a chance, especially when you will be distracted by other wars (e.g. American wars, rebelion in Flandres).

But, do not let my words discourage you, because it will be very interesting to read how well :) you will overcome those hard times in the near future.

Good luck - you will need it! :D

Cornelius.

Well the intention is...

Hello again...

Been out of home for almost 2 weeks, so I could not keep on with the AAR...but now I'm back, and will post next follow up soon.

Duque de alba: dont worry, I am what you could call a hardcore fan; and I hate cheaters. I play clean :

Regarding the difficulty to play Spain, well so far I have played only a couple of GCs up to the mid 1600's, and as long as I keep out of the European bussinesses and I concentrate on america, is VERY easy to win. In this campaign I intend to be more bellicous in Europe, tho :).

Cornelius:
Well, in all the games I?ve played so far, France grew WAY too strong annexing german states. Usually Lorraine, the Palatinat and sometimes Hessen too. And then they try to expand too towards Italy.

I dont want a strong France in Europe because that will hurt my interests. I want to be the strongest continental force in mid-west europe, and the only way to avoid France getting far too powerful is to cut his vector to move westwards. I have risked an initially agressive position to ensure that France doesnt grow far to strong. Later on the game when Europe gets divided by Protestantism, I plan to bribe France as MY ally, so avoiding the problem of the casus belli on me.

So far my badboy is 12. Far too big for 1501, but I wont make it grow too much in the near future.

Well...here goes the next part:

June 1501-January 1504

June 1501. After the glorious victory, I look again at the map. France wont expand into Nort East europe if it is not fighting us. Helvetia, wich is now France's ally, is the only direct route to expand, but Austria is there too. They have lost three provinces wich, while not being especially rich, will hurt their income. The Situation in europe after the Spanish-French war is as follows:

The main alliances in Europe are:

Spain-Milan-Lorraine-Palatinat

France-Papal States-Scotland-Helvetia

Portugal-Navarra-England

Tuscany-Parma-Genoa-The Knights

Hanseatic league-Poland Lithuania-Teutonic Order-Hannover

Russia-Ryazan-Crimea-Denmark

Turkey-Wallachia-Algiers

The rest of the nations are either allied in pairs (Austria-Wurttemberg, Venice-Bohemia, etc), or free.

Spain is in friendly terms with its allies. Palatinat (+45), Lorraine (+80), Milan (+50), and has normal or bad relations with the rest. Savoy annexation has not been seen with good eyes. France hates us, as does Poland, Turkey, Navarra, Russia, Sweden, Algiers...

Europe is at peace...a new world is just discovered. Time to expand.

I send an ambassador to Bohemia and Brandemburg to arrange a royal marriage with each nation. They accept, so increasing our relations with them from (-99) to (-84) in both cases. Brandemburg is tied with no alliance. But they dont like us too much so I wont offer them an alliance unless that relations improve.

Our colony in St Thomas is again expanded. My treasury is not very rich right now (43d) so I wont send further colonists to the New World until New Year arrives with its annual tax income.

Balboa is ordered to land on an Island I decided to call Cuba, and study the terrain to set a colony there.

July:

My troops in Europa finally reach the provinces I ordered them to garrison. Right now in Savoy we have Colonna's army (23000/3200/13), in Nivernais is Cordoba with his army (16500/5300/20), and in Artois I have a smaller force of (6000/2000/30). In Messina I have a garrison of 5500/2500, and the Mediterranean fleet with 29 galleys. In Spanish mainland we have no troops, but in Andalucia we have the Atlantic fleet with 10 warships and 3 transports.

August:
Balboa lands in Moron,Cuba, and he moves East to explore the big isle. I order Pinzon to keep the explorations. Puerto Rico colony is expanded (now has 400 souls).

September:
We send our ambassador to Naples, our Vassal,to get them into our alliance. They agree. Of course, I have my own plans for Naples...next year it will be 10 years since they are our vassals, and this acceptance to enter the alliance has increased our relations from (+28) to (+48). I wont try a diplomatic annexation too soon, though. I want to be seen with better eyes before further expansion.

October. A new colony is founded in Jamaica. Now we have 3 colonies in the New world.

I am surprised, and pleased, when I am called to the Court, where the Catholic Kings order me as Count. It has been only 5 months since I was named viscount...my star is rising as fast as Spains'

November. I order San Martin to be colonized. Sven Sture Sjöblad rises to the Swedish throne

December. V.Pinzon discovers more lands, lands wich he calls "mosquitos Coast" due its wet,hot climate with lots of insects. He assess the situation, and reach the conclussion that a colony can't be founded there due the bad climate and especially because the malaria. Maybe we will set a Trade post there, in the future. For now we will keep on exploring.

January 1502. 315d of tax income. Our Stability is still at +1, but the income is already bigger than before the war. cool. I send colonists to Guantanamo, Moron, and Havana (wich Balboa has just explored). I order a 7000/3000 army to be raised at Catalonia to keep the Homeland safe. This spendings down our money to 6d. I take a look into the montly income and I set it at 1.5d/month. So far the inflation is well kept at bay, only an 1%.

February. Much rejoincing in the Court when the King sees its mission (to keep the Franche Comte under spanish control) fullfitted. Thankfully for me, I know he would've made me pay dearly for another failure. The King's new orders are to keep Savoie. I think we will be able to do it fine.

May. New colony at San Martin. Columbus reaches the Canary islands after exploring new sea routes in the Central Atlantic. Pinzon discovers even more land. This new lands will be called "Florida"

August. Champagne Revolts, 13000 men siege the fortress. I order Cordoba to move north and stop it.

September. The Revolt in Champagne is put down at the cost of 2000 infantrymen. Guantanamo and Habana colonizations failed (Habana with a 92% chance to be a success, and it fails! SHEESH!), but we have a new colony at Moron.

October: Russia, Denmark and Ryazan declare war on the Golden Horde and Astrakhan.

1-January 1503: 312d of tax income. I send rich presents to the Naples Nobles, wich improve my relation from +48 to +65.

I order three colonists to the New world, one to Puerto Rico, other to St Thomas and the last to Guantanamo.

May. St Thomas and Puerto Rico colonies are expanded.

July. The war in the East is over. Golden Horde pays russia 23d in exchange for peace.

August. The army researchers have achieved a new breakthrough. (Artillery support tech), and Pinzon reaches TAmpico bay. he sees signs of a nation in the New world...maybe is that the famous cathay?. whatever it is, this new lands are very extense. Pinzon's first thought was that this land would be a bigger isle that the ones we found at first, but the evidence points out that it is much bigger than we thought. We founded a new Colony at Guantanamo.

September. We pact royal marriages with Saxony, the Hanseatic league, Hannover and Hessen. The german states, wich once liked us so much, now all have a much worse opinion of us (ranging from -80 to -55).

October. Persia and Mameluks declare war on Nubia. Heathens fighting Heathens. I thank God for this kind of wars.

December. 14000 men revolt in Savoy. Colonna puts down the rebellion almost instantly, but sadly and shocking for us, he dies in the combat. A mess is said in the Toledo Cathedral to remember this brave general, and pray for his soul. WIth him dies one of the heros of the war, the Conqueror of Savoy.

Svante Sture natt och Dag rises to the throne in Sweden.

January 1504. 311d tax income. Cosa awaits my command in Holland. I order him to move to Andalucia. I send colonists to Puerto Rico, Barahona (where Ojeda has just put foot), and Havana. I also order 4000 men and 2000 horsemen to be raised at Andalucia. They will be embarked to the new world with Cosa's expedition.

You know, I foung a funny thing yesterday when I was playing as Portugal. I had several trade posts in South America, and how surprised I was  when in peace time I received a message that I lost control over a trading post to Spain. Its conquistador simply walked through my province and claimed it for Spain. I thought this is true only (as was stated in the Pact of Tordessilas) for provinces of non-European countries. I also tried to do vice-versa and try to reclaim the post for Portugal - no luck, this pact works probably only for Spain and not for Portugal too, as I previously supposed. Or it is a bug, I do not know.

I am waiting to find out how you will conquer Aztecs and Incas and what plans do you have for Europe - another war of expantion? :)

Cornelius.

Corenelius...check which ones that are your "core provinces". (If I remeber it correctly you select the political map view, where you see all the different countires in different colours). You will then see Portugeese shields all over africa (and your portugeese mainland ofcourse) and spanish shields all over south america excluding Brazil.

Just as the real treaty did, it divided the world between Spain and Portugal, spain receiving the western part of the world i.e. America, and Portugal the east, (Africa). And for some measure of fairness or whatever it was Portugal got Brazil as a playground.

So you just take your troops down a stroll along the african coast and you will be set.

I hope you get what I mean, and that I didn't screw anything up while explaining it, did it off the top of my head :).

Huhm. yes...But this is a simple choice...either I let France grow to strong (take a look into Ariel's AAR and tell me that you want SUCH a france in 1615 in the Spanish backdoor ;)), or I cut his wings soon in the game. Anyway, and as it seems in the game, England will be cut to pieces quite soon, and I'm sure that France will get its piece of te cake.

Anyway it is quite simple, as the game passes by, the Spanish possessions on Central Europe are harder and harder to defend against France. I want to secure such possessions; if that means to keep a weaker France, then so be it (hehe I wont regret it ;))

Also, with the French stopped dead on their tracks, we will see a stronger Netherlands later (usually France seizes half his provinces almost instantly).

Well, you asked me how would I deal with the Aztecs...take a look into the next part of the AAR...

Colonial Expansion in the New World.

February-April 1504.
Colonists sent to St Thomas; Columbus and Pinzon are ordered to explore the New World. Pinzon will search northwards, Columbus southwards.

May-October 1504.
War spreads over Europe again when in May France (Papal States, Helvetia, Scotland, Portugal) declares war on England (Navarra). Seems that England is in deep trouble, But Navarra is relatively safe (Bearn is now spanish ,preventing a direct French attack). Later, in June, Hungary (Austria) declares war on Turkey (Wallachia, Tunisia, Algiers).Wruttemberg dishonours their alliance with the Hungarians, but rejoins the alliance (invited by Austria, I guess) almost instantly.

We send diplomats to Cologne,Wruttemberg and Helvetia to arrange Royal marriages with them. All of them agree (Cologne (-54)to(-39), Helvetia (-105)to(-90), Wruttemberg (-83)to(-68)

All the colonists sent to america are Succesfull, and we send yet another colonist to Habana. Cosa's fleet arrives at Andalucia, where he joins with 3 transports, loads the 4000/2000 army there, and sets sail towards the new world.

October-December 1504.

Pinzon reaches Cheasapeake Bay and spots an english settlement in one of the coast provinces there. Seems we are not the only ones who have found the New World. Cosa's expedition, with their 6000 men, reaches St.Thomas. I immediatly order them to set sail again towards Barahona, where Ojeda awaits.

44000 french and Swiss men put siege on Calais.

In December, Nubia sues for peace with Persia ,giving up Batn al Hajar and 23 ducats as indemnities.

We offer a Royal Marriage to Baden, wich is accepted (-86)to(-71)

January-June 1505
Tax 323d. Vassili III rises to the throne at Russia.

We send colonists to Puerto Rico and St Thomas. We order the Fortress at Artois to be improved; and we establish at Tax collector at champagne.

Cosa arrives at Barahona, where Ojeda boards the ships. The ship sets sail to explore the civilization we spotted some months ago...

In March, Habana is expanded, and we order yet another colonist there. We also arrange a Royal Marriage with Hungary (-98)to(-83), wich allows us to see hungarian lands. we see with deep concern that the Turk has seized Serbia and Croatia, and that 40000 turks are marching towards Pest. Seems that the Heathens are winning this war.

Both colonies at Puerto Rico and St Thomas are succesfully expanded. In Puerto Rico we have, finally, our first City on the New World. We Immediatly order a Tax collector to be raised there, and 2000 infantry men.

July-December 1505
Calais falls into French hands.

Ojeda puts foot at a province called Tuxpan, owned by a civilization wich calls themselfs "Aztecs". We hear legends on the massive gold mines present on their lands. We order ojeda to explore the lands just north to this newly found nation.

In September Nubia pacts peace with the Mameluks in exchange for 26d, Bisharin and Nubia. We look at Hungary, only to see how the Turks own all the hungarian lands south of the Danube, with 97000 men ready to march north.

Columbus arrives at Puerto Rico after exploring all the Brazilian coast up to Pernambuco. He is ordered to load the 2000 men commisioned there and sets sail towards Habana, wich has just been expanded. Ojeda puts foot on Tampico, and is ordered west to explore more lands. Cosa is ordered back to Jamaica.

In October Bearn Revolts. 7000 peasants set siege on the Fortress there; We order the 7000/3000 army at Catalonia to move there and stop the revolt. Wallachia accepts to pay 250ducats to Austria in exchange for peace, but things in Hungary are getting even worse each day that passes by.

In November the revolt at Bearn is stopped,at the cost of 2000 infantrymen. Cosa arrives at JAmaica, where Alicantarra is ordered to board the ships.

January- December 1506
Tax 331d. Zygmunt I rises to the throne at Poland-Lithuania.

We send colonists to St Thomas and to Habana. Fortifications are increased at Franche Comte and Nivernais. We send a friendly missive to Baden, wich is well received (-71) to (-58)

Hungria settles for peace with Turkey. As we feared, the Hungarian losses are big. Serbia, Croatia and 104d is the Tribute that Hungary has to pay to the Turk. We order 3000 horsemen on puerto Rico.

In March, Columbus dies, and we order his fleet to move back to Puerto Rico. Alicantarra and Balboa board Cosa's fleet and move west towards Tampico Bay. England settles an expensive peace with Scotland...Lancashire, Yorkshire and 250d is the tribute the English have to pay for peace...we see black clouds in the english future...

In May, St Thomas colony is expanded again, wich turns it into the second spanish city on the New World. We order a tax collector to be raised there. Habana is also expanded and we order yet another colonist there.

By october, we have discovered all the Aztec nation. it has four provinces, and a 33000 strong army in one of those provinces, Michoagan. When the 3000 horsemen from Puerto Rico join Ojeda's army at Saltillo, we will declare war on this nation.

1-December. our troops are in position. We declare war on the Aztecs, but we call no allieds to assist (of course). In the south, Alicantarra's 2600 men will seize first Tuxpan and then Zacatecas while Balboa's 3000 Infantrymen will be ordered to take Tatlixco and then move into Michoagan. This last move will be timed with Ojeda, who will move his army (5000/4700) from Saltillo into Michoagan at the same time to fight the Aztec army there.

15-December. Tatlixco and Tuxpan are taken. we order both Ojeda and Balboa's armies to move into Michoagan while Alicantarra is ordered to move into Zacatecas.

30-December. Habana is expanded.

1-January.1507
Tax 382d. Colonists called on Habana and Tehuantepec. Fortresses ordered on Bearn (expansion) and Puerto Rico.

15-January. Balboa and Ojeda reach the same day at Michoagan
while on the west, Zacatecas falls to Alicantarra. This will be the battle wich decides the future of the Aztec Civilization...7700/4700 spaniards against 36000 Aztecs. Numbers are on the Aztec side, but weapons and leadership on Spain's.

17-January...VICTORY!!!!. 3500 spaniards lie on the battle field, in exchange for 2500 Aztecs. But Michoagan is Spanish!. We annex the Aztec nation, wich gold mines will make our nation the richest on the world. The 33000-strong army is now ours, too, making our militar presence on the New World a very strong one.

We end this phase with a strong grip on the New World, and expanding even more as the time passes by. The Aztecs have fallen, and the door is open for our explorations in New Spain.

Colonization

RAM,

Nice war strategy on Aztecs, I think it was the shortest war you will ever have.

While colonizing Carribean islands do you clear land of natives before sending a colonist?

Ariel will probably not be happy to find out that England in your GC was intimidated by French and Scotts.

On your colonial expansion you will stick with Central and South America or will try to expand elsewhere too?

Cornelius.
