Spain :)

I decided to play a new game with Spain. I almost forgot how easy it was Right now it is about 1750 and I am the richest country by far. Getting about 800-900 gold/month

Colonized/Conquered all of spains shields in North and south america, diploannexed Portugal and got brazil and some in indonesia and then I colonized all australia
btw All my colonies in N&S america are cities


The east coast in America is now actually colonized/conquered to 100% by France and England (well and sweden, 2 trading posts in florida I allowed them to colonize)

Except diploannexing portugal and aragon, and grenada by military. I didn't do anything in Europe. Turned out pretty intresting.


Something I don't like, the inflation from the gold is so easy to avoid. I mean i never got over 30% in this game, even though i conquered the Azteks and Inca. Mostly because i got +100 gold and -5 inflation,+200gold -10 infallation all the through the game..No fun playing without challenge

If you want a challenge with inflation play the Aztecs.

So did you just get a lot of - inflation events, or did you never experience gold inflation in the first place?

I doubt that anyone will disagree that playing as Castille/Spain is difficult. Now if the above was done playing as Aragon/Spain, it would be a bit more difficult, as your BB goes through the roof conquering Castille and her allies.

I always play as Aragon->become->Spain. Yes, it's certainly a greater challenge on account of the BB point nightmare (usually 2 per province, 1 if Castille declares upon you, which she will usually do by the 1440's or so . . .).

Does not Aragon start with 2 cultures though and Castile only 1. I am not saying it does because I have never played Aragon, I just had this feeling that they do.

Italian + Iberian. Keeps both in the transformation to Spain. Makes the game rediculously easy thenceforth.

Look up the word 'thenceforth' and notice it occurs after I use the word 'Spain.'

Actually that Italian culture that Aragon has is a problem - or rather Castile not having it is! When Charles I inherits Aragon in 1516, rebellions start all over the aragonese italian holdings, and culture makes them even more frequent... Often the result is very much like the Dutch Rebellion, only sooner.

I haven't played 1.05 in Europe (I'm trying it, but I started in Southeast Asia and know nothing about european politics apart from Portugal and Spain existence) but I really think that either the event should be altered to avoid nationalist rebellions that didn't happen or Spain to receive italian culture in 1516, which could be historical, as Spain ruled half of Italy until 1714.

U must be mismanaguing ur Italian lands then if they cause as much trouble as the Dutch revolts ...

Indeed. I didn't have any trouble at all with them. In fact, I only became aware of the Italian holdings long after the nationalism had subsided , when I saw by accident the Castilian flag waving in northern Italy.

It never had occured to me that Aragon had more holdings than the provinces in Iberia and the islands in the mediterranian.

maekh, what did you do to get 30% inflation? i'm playing Spain right now, its 1528 and I'm on my way to colonizing all of South America, and my inflation is 0. I got mayors early but even before that my inflation never went above 2%. I really try not to get any inflation, am I the only one who does that?

Cause people often say they get alot of inflation though I find it ridiculously easy to avoid inflation unless you area small country with lots of gold provinces.
