In the games I have played thus far only the nationalists have won all but once. The only time they won was when playing as USSR I providing tons of supplies and materials for free to the repubs, DOWed the Nats, had the Repubs join the comintern and send them an expeditionary force. I refuse to believe they stand a chance against Franco without that much support.

I'm now positive the outcome of the SCW is determined by the country and government of the player. If I choose an Axis-based nation/puppet or make my country a dictatorship, the Nationalists always lose. If I play a neutral, Allied, or democratic government, the Republicans always lose.

I'm talking 100% of the time in either case.

I have regular HoI2 and CORE and the same thing happens for both. In my most recent game as the U.K. I gave a crapload of stuff to the Republicans and it looked like they would win. Next thing I new they were down to two provinces and a very few divisions. They also held Madrid the whole time.

It doesn't make a difference in my games because I end up conquering Spain either way :)

Not so unusual as it may seems, happened to me as well. Playing as Germany, I wanted the Nationalist to win, so I pumped supplies, energy, metal and some money into them. They still lost.

In a recent USA game, Republican Spain managed to defeat and annex the Nationalists. This is something I'd not seen before- though I've only played about 5 games, as I'm new to HoI2. In every other case, the Nationalist scum had won.
How often does this happen? Is this a one-off, something I won't see for another hundred games? Or is it quite frequent, and I've just been unlucky so far?
Obviously I understand the outcome has no predetermined chance, but the AIs no doubt have a certain tendency to win or lose- what experience have you had?

Sorry if this has been asked or answered elsewhere, I can't find it.

Quite normal, i suppose. I have had few games where they are locked in a stalemate until someone allies them in propably '41-'44

I do think it has something to do with the player's set-up; even more in the latter versions.

I tested both DD and HoI2 vanilla with 8 countries:
UK, France, USA, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Japan.

I found the following results:

HoI2:

5/3, a total of 8 games with the Nationalist taking the odd by 5.

DD:

8/0, a total of 8 games all with a total victory of the republicans.

Out of hundreds of games I've seen the Nationalists win maybe two or three times. That includes original HoI2, DD and various patches, and now Arma.

I've just resorted to hitting F12 and typing "event 1001 spr" 20 times when the SCW fires.

From what I've seen, the faction who controls the capital usually wins. Perhaps that could be a reason why the Republicans win so often, as they start with control over Madrid.
