This is the first time in last few years may be, I have seen Spain is no.1 superpower.holds Italian possessions properly and colonized entire south America except Brazil and reached Philippines by 1600.I am playing as England and i have seen first time France -Spain border is historical and France is not taking half of Spain. Good job paradox for balancing the matter first time since COP.anybody else noticed that? plz share your experience in 1.23 European balance of power.

It's just RNG. In my GB game Castille was destroyed by Aragon. There is a "triangle" between Aragon, Castille and France. Who manage to ally France wins. Ahistorical and silly AI behaviour because the iberians were aware of the danger of their northern neighbour. This is why Iberian wedding happened. Because aragonese nobles knew that they hadn't proper military strength to protect theirselves from the french ambitions on Italy and Iberia.

Easily solved adding "historical friends" modifier between Portugal, Castille and Aragon.

In my current game Castille got the burgundian inheritance really early then it fell into a PU under Aragon. Aragon couldn't hold this enlarged castille so they broke free after a century. Currently about 1650 and Spain hasn't formed.

Well if we go by the lines of "Why did you nerf the ottomans, they were a historical superpower" then we could use the same logic here. Spain truly was a superpower in it's golden age between 1492 and 1659. In most of my games they do get the Burgundian inheritance (Except of course when I play as Spain)
Why is France not taking half of Spain bad?

In my Muscovy mod-free game, Castile had been removed from the map by France and Aragon, Portugal is almost annexed by Morocco. So not really that much different, as others say, RNG :).

Also my AI Ottomans despise all the forum whining about them being weak this patch and annexed all the Balkans/mamluks anyway.

But I've noticed that Austria is doing really good this patch, beside lucky Burgundy inheritance, they really try hard to liberate HRE countries and maintain IA, they easily passed 3 reforms now. (Happened maybe twice during my 1500 hours before) :p

Castile is definitely still prone to getting beaten by Aragon/France/Morocco, but I do think they colonize much better now than they did in the previous version. In my game they colonized Brazil much faster than usual. It also seems like the AI can now win overseas wars against natives that they would often lose due to not moving their troops. They are still not good at fighting these kinds of wars, but it looks like they win at least.

A sidenote - if Aragon does destroy Castile it still often forms Spain and takes exploration ideas. It also gives it permanent claims on whatever France took first. So in the end it looks almost historical anyway.

As for Portugal, well, they can always enjoy their time on Azores, or migrate to the new World entirely. :D Poor Morocco would-be-conqueror is just kicked out of Iberia immediately by whoever becomes their new Iberian neighbour. :p No one likes Morocco.

Honestly Castille/Spain has always been hit or miss, although at some point I either encountered some sort of statistical anomaly or the previous patch made Granada-Morocco alliance too strong and seemed to break on a regular basis the fairly incompetent Castillian AI who would then procceed to lose the remnant of its lands to Aragon.

It seemed that either Castille got killed 3 out of 4 times or when it didn't it just became a behemoth that consumed everything in its path.

Yeah, always wondered why Aragon and Castile don't already have the modifier. It would solve a lot of weird stuff going on in Maghreb for one.
