No that is what we call the Frankish Empire. Seriously.Frankenreich?
"Franzözische Republik" is incredibly formal and shouldn't work for in the geographical or culturak sence. Honestly I wasn't convinced that it was the official name before I checked the Wikipedia article named "Frankreich." That's what people actually call it.
Is it too hard to grasp that in English, the language we use now, both Weimar and Nazi Germany were called German Reich in official documents ?
That explains a lot. But German Reich might still be problematic. It would either still have to be German Reich when it's a democracy, which I perdict they will never do, or be called "Federal Republic of Germany." Than there is the problem of other countries having informal names at the same time. I also can't imagin that they will avoid that issue. Instead we are going to end up with an in your face "German Reich" because that is what consumers expect and recognize. For other countries well, we can be happy they renamed "Holland" to "the Netherlands."
There is no single right way of naming countries because, as we can see in the example of spain, it depends on the perspectiv. The only thing that can be done is using a consitent perspectiv for naming every country.
