So I was looking through Facebook when NPR posted a story on the Autocomplete map of the United States so I decided to look at it. Turns out the guy who did this did it for the whole world and the autocomplete for Spain was "Spain is not the emperor". Good job Paradox, freaking hilarious.

Err... Cam somebody explain, please? I remmeber back in eu iii there was a tooltip about it, but i never understood what was supposed to mean

I've no idea what Spain is not the Emperor means either, besides obviously being some kind of in-joke from the EU series.

What's most amusing is that Paradox and the community have managed to get so many hits/links on Google that the top autocomplete suggestion for two different nations (followed by the word 'is', anyway) refer to EU :)

If you Google Spain is not the emperor there's a few Paradox Plaza threads where other people ask what it's all about.

As far as I remember "Spain is not the Emperor" is a reference to an office multiplayer.
I seem to remember that it was the same as the one where the term "Rousillon will be French by the end of the game" was coined. That quote was said by the French player which resulted in the Spanish player renaming Rousillon to something like "El Torro".

I forget when exactly the decision was made, but the basic gist goes:

According to history, the king of Spain was the Emperor. In reality, it didn't mean much and brought on a whole host of other problems, but gameplay wise they had tacked on quite a few bonuses for the emperor. These bonuses made Spain the top kid on the block, far more than paradox deemed necessary or wanted, and so they gave it to some other nation (That I can't remember right now).

It was one of the beginning tips while Eu3 was loading.
