Soviets Justifying on Byzantium

Playing Byzantium on 'Historical' and I've managed to take turkey and Romania out and am trying to build up my industry and yet the soviets start Justifying on me.
'OK' I thought and released moldovia - I was expecting this no big deal
Then they start Justifying on Bucovina - bit odd but understandable

*time skip 3 days and another failed Uniuted Balkan state run later*

Reload a back-up from before beating Romania - Soviets are justifying for armeniakon (A province in Anatolia they don't have a land border with)

Why are the doing this? I don't wanna join the axis because then Bulgaria will steal my land, I can't join the allies because I generated World Tension annexing Turkey and the soviets are for some reason on service by requirement so I would have to kill at least 11 Million communists.

What do? Try again?. This is feels like a no win scenario which is a shame because so far this has been the only tree in the pack that suits how I like to enjoy the game

I had that same problem just a few minutes ago. My Byzantium run came to a crashing halt when the Soviets started justifying against me for southern Romania. I knew they wanted the north which is why I didn't take it... But it seems like Soviets would justify you for something anyway.

I've sort of gotten around Bulgaria by taking them out before Turkey so I could actually join the Axis, although facing Turkey and Romania at the same time is potentially a bit too much with your rather low manpower before forming Byzantium

I simply allied Bulgaria (created faction) after they took the focus which makes them accept fascist diplomacy more likely and attacked Romania together with them.

Once Romania was finished (puppeted) i backstabbed Bulgaria and joined the Axis. They joined the allies at this point but you were going to fight them anyway.

I also kept relations with the soviet union high and after i've beaten up Bulgaria and Yugoslavia, i placed my troops along the border in the Caucasus and prepared for Germany to declare war on them. I never even bothered to man the border of my Romanian puppet and only called them into the war, once Germany had it's own troops there.

I just boosted relations with Germany after turning fascist and going for that focus that give you factories from great powers with 80+ relations. Germany will accept you into the Axis then.

I think the problem wasn't so much not being accepted as a current bug automatically giving Bulgaria Thrace and Macedonia once they join the Axis neccesiting killing them first

I'm struggling to see what the problem is here.

You are essentially complaining that the AI isn't rolling over and dying for you buy letting you slowly pick off small countries one by one while you snowball.

The Soviet Union 'arbitrarily' preparing war on a group of insane fascists that are trying to revive a dead empire and conquer the Mediterranean and Europe? This sounds like it is both logical and good. There would be no challenge if the great powers just stood idly by while crazy fascists carve out an empire, nor is it even the least bit plausible even within the game's internal logic.

The game is easy enough as it is, I see little reason to make it even easier.

There is no need to join the Axis either, I'm not quite sure why you even think it is. You can just be a co-belligerent and war on the Soviets simultaneously with the Axis without ever joining it.

It's '39 and I have piss poor industry, I can't withstand the Soviets without help, Germany isn't going to invade until '41 so I join the Axis or lose

That is true, even after absorbing Turkey and forming Byzantium you still have a very weak economy and mostly only more manpower

Not really. Stalin was extremely cautious in foreign policy, which is why he never declared war on major powers. His preferred method of expansion was backstabbing and coups.

But where in the focus tree of soviet union does he get war goals on Greece? I only know of War goals on Northern Romania and Turkey for the med.
