The size of the front is exactly the reason unlike others i enlist as many allies as possible when playing Germany. Rather then complaining about how horrible minors are, i want every nation i can get on the Soviet border. There is nothing i enjoy more then watching Soviet units rip deep into Persia, Turkey etc... As i run over their western front and Japan gobbles up the east.

Atleast it has become optional. I stopped calling in Allies because the AI is so horribly bad at prioritising. Its just painful to watch the entire soviet armored force tearing up poor Finland while you are driving to Moskow unopposed.

But thats the whole point! Who cares if they take Finland, or Persia or Turkey? Every Soviet union not in the Soviet union is one less you have to fight. But ofr this strategy to work you cant get bogged down you must breakthrough.

Yes, but there is no point in handicapping the AI more than it already is. I think most players want the AI to put up atleast a token amount of resistance.

The call to arms system allow you to adjust the challenge level slightly upward.

That was just talking about a way to accomplish taking the Soviets, it was by no means meant to be THE way or the only way nor the toughest way. You have alot of newer players who simply cannot do it yet, also many get scared off reading about how bad the minors are. I myself handicap my games in ways usually more then most, mainly due to the fact that i let the AI handle almost all combat, amongst other ways. I believe micro managing the game to the point of reducing errors to zero is not only totally unrealistic but goes back to what your saying in that do we really need any more advantages against the AI?

I wasnt attempting to make any point other than that I am happy we now have the choice.

Lets just say that I want the "joy" of my invincible German army carving the Russians to pieces and I cant really have that if the Russians are nowhere to be found;)

I have no moral problems exploiting the opportunity to trap half the Ming army on an Island in EUIV

(well, maybe I do have moral problems with it but I do it anyway)

I have EU3 but never really played it, thinking about doing so now.

In regards to HOI3 i play many different ways, straight up, a ton of house rules, no house rules, CGM etc...

Here is a fun strategy: puppet Finland, conquer Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and Turkey before February (roughly), 1940. Also puppet Greece before Italy fires the Ultimatum to Greece. The former moves give you Strategic Effects increasing resources and leadership. The latter move against Greece will allow you to be in a permanent state of war as soon as Italy DOWs Greece. This will be a limited war so Germany and Japan will stay neutral, thus giving you the chance to conquer Italy.

BTW: you should probably build two battleships, a couple of CVLs and enough escorts to take out the Italian navy. This is easy enough to do even as you are IC whoring. You also wind up having enough extra leadership to make up for what you "wasted" getting the extra naval assets. By the time Germany should fire Barbarossa you are so strong it won't. This strategy allows for a steamroller on the ground, plus a navy large enough to grab Japan right out from under the nose of the Allies.

I'm doing the puppeting at the moment, but Yugoslavia went Axis when I lost track of them. France fell quickly and it's going to be interesting to see what comes of this when I get back to the game. I'm behind on my unit building but barring any sudden German attacks in late '40, I should be fine. I did see the USA slip into the Allies in late '39, though, which was troubling (Wake and Midway are already Japanese-held). I don't believe anything I did was the cause of that.

Currently conquered on Romania (I need to puppet them ASAP), puppets in Finland, Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece. Driving through Persia now, as well. Italy did launch its limited war on Greece - I may get into that, but was in the process of transferring South and Southwestern Fronts back into Romania. At the very least, I'll provide air support and a few tank divisions in Salonika and Athens.

Too bad about Yugoslavia. Germany has a nasty habit of influencing YUG when you play an aggressive Russia. Sorry I forgot about this:blush:

Yugoslavia begins in the German end of the triangle and is slowly moving their way. If you dont intervene you can always assume that Yugoslavia will either join the Axis or be taken by Germany.

I was planning on attacking, but as I mentioned, I lost track of things (my own fault) and the time went too quickly before I realized my error. Barely two minutes later, Yugoslavia went Axis. I muttered and cursed and that was that. I haven't been back to that game yet, as I got caught up in a solitaire boardgame on the US Sub War against Japan called Silent War. Using a java game engine to play (I own the game, but having cats, can't leave it setup), I'm enjoying that at the moment.
