Update nr.163
Things were slow in the past few month. A stalemate in Africa, IC shortage
[thanks to high dissent] and painfully slow research made things especially frustrating.
But these delays gave me some time to plan things ahead, promote half of the
Red Army leaders and...capture some worthless islands!
The first island to fall was Cyprus. Soviet paratroopers, based in Beirut,
captured the island without a single shot fired.
The same could be said about Malta and Sicily. The British garrisons had
sold their weapons for food and, faced by the Soviet commandos, had nothing to do,
but surrender and beg for mersy.
Canadians also abandoned their Pacific conquests and allowed
a Soviet garrison to land in Okinawa.
But the latter operation in Okinawa attracted a strange USN fleet.
A five capital ship "fleet" engaged 30 Soviet destroyer flotillas - that's about
420 ships! Who will win this one? I defenately bet on me!
The Red Navy starts off with an excellent positioning and hits
the unescorted enemy ships hard. But screens or no screens, the enemy
takes down with them a fair number of Soviet ships.
After two battles the USN fleet is obliterated for a price of four destroyer flotillas.
I guess this is a fair exchange. But even those casualties could have been avoided if i used
my battleship fleets to support the invasion of Okinawa.
Meanwhile the entire Soviet tactical and naval bomber fleet was scanning
the Mediterranean sea for enemy ships. After a month of fruitless searches a large
US CV fleet has been spotted near the coast of Alexandria.
1600 bombers traveled over this territory every single day for a whole month
and they didn't notice THAT fleet until now!? Those pilots sure need glasses!
And when they did finally notice the fleet it was too strong to damage it.
The US ships were fully supplied and organised, just like i feared.
The cause of this problem is traced back to Corsica.
The French are guarding their new capital even better than Paris,
back in the old days. I see no possibilities of forcing them out
of this island without a nuke.
An alternative to capturing Corsica is...anexing France. They have
only two victory points left in the, hopefully, unguarded Pacific islands.
Let the preparations for the Pacific offensive begin!
