Update nr.116
April begins with an ambitious operation to safely extract the divisions from Marcus Island.
After the victory against the Japanese, three divisions were stationed here to protect the future Soviet
stronghold in the Pacific. But now this idea is abandoned and those troops are needed elsewhere.
Shortly after departure the Red Navy encounter an old USN fleet.
I do them a favour and recycle their ships.
On their way to Marcus Island my battleships encounter few more small fleets, but fail to sink any ships.
When my ships reach their destination it is clear that enemy has the island surrounded.
Red Navy battleships punch a hole in the blockade, but the Allies manage to avoid casualties.
I send one battleship fleet after the retreaters and sink every single one of them.
The divisions successfully board the transport ships and the journey
to China begins. Few more insignificant fleets are encountered, one enemy light cruiser sunk
and no USN carriers in sight - so far so good.
But the carriers show up as soon as my fleets separate from eash other.
Battleships are ordered to hide and transports are ordered to retreat.
Only one transport flotilla is sunk, meanwhile the others escape to Shanghai.
My naval bombers were scouting the Italian shorelines for weeks now,
but didn't encounter any enemy fleets. Seeing that this is a waste of time
i change the mission from naval strike to convoy bombing.
This won't win the war, but at least my naval bombers are finally doing something useful.
And by useful i mean sinking an average of 8 convoys per day.
A British carrier fleet is spotted in the Gulf of Taranto. This is the same fleet that attacked Dublin
in the beginning of the war. This time they come after the unprotected Soviet transport ships, but little do they know
that Taranto is the main Soviet air base in the region.
While Allied planes attack the docked transport ships, hundreds of Soviet naval bombers
flank the enemy and strike their defenseless carriers. HMS Hermes is the first to sink and other two carriers
retreat after losing 80-90% of their strength. This victory is a clear warning for the Allies - don't mess
with the Soviets, unless you have 10 or more carriers!
Here is the overview of sunk and lost ships in the past two weeks. 12:1 Soviets win this round. Booyakasha!
And some more god news for the road.
Red Army is halfway across China and i still can't see any real resistance. And while enemy carriers
were busy hunting my main fleet, one of my two Pacific transport fleets have landed 5 divisions in Hong Kong.
This was a very risky and unnecessary operation and i won't be trying anything similar in the future.
