An infantry-heavy army should fight with obsolete infantry? No, better to just grab more oil, somehow. If majority of one's land units are of a certain type, it's just suicidal to lag behind in its development.
Yes, but an army that can't move is just as useless. I thnk it's a strong argument to stop at '43 INF and transition to a Motorized/Mechanized army instead. If you're going to be burning fuel anyways you might as well go the whole nine yards.

Update nr.93

Red Navy is ordered to move to Tsushima strait and block any Japanese attempts
to escape from Korea. Few hours after arrival they encounter a small, but modern IJN fleet.
Japanese are grossely outnumebred and outgunned and suffer severly.
Only one destroyer flotilla escapes the carnage.

tsushimalx5.png

tsushima2zb6.png

With hostile battleships guarding the strait, the Japanese have nowhere to run.
They are forced to stand and fight. Busan garrison surrenders immediately while Japanese HQ
fights to the last man. Canadian and British bomber crews make sure that no one
lives to surrender to the Soviets.

skoreaso9.png

Seeing how their surface ships are blown apart, Japanese send their
[ or rather ex-german ] submarines to distract the Red Navy.
But Soviet destroyer captains block the enemy submarines from reaching
the battleships and they retreat without scoring any hits.

On the other hand, almost all of the submarine flotillas were slightly damaged.

submarinesfm1.png

Few days later another tiny fleet stumbles into the Red Navy kill-zone.
I wonder where all the IJN killer fleets are? I encountered one near Burma,
but that's it.

tsushima3vd5.png

tsushima4pl6.png

With one fleet protecting the strait, and the other shelling the enemy positions,
five mechanized divisions set out to eliminate the last Japanese presence in South Korea.
The battle begins early in the morning:

jejuqw4.png

The lack of supplies, constant shore bombardment and superior attacking forces don't scare
the defenders of Jeju. They are fighting to the death, enemy death that is.

jeju1yr6.png
jeju2ja9.png

The defeat was humiliating, but Soviet propaganda came up with an explanation:
those were the elite Emperor's bodyguards defending that island. An army of selected
samurais, ninjas and sumo wrestlers.

Still explanation is not good enough. Ninjas , samurais, sumo wrestlers led by emperors hand-picked commanders with most advanced equipment and highest morale, talismans, who drop your Irish lepricaun's luck and influence of the Chinese dragon to zero and bring massive +3 luck and +3 morale for their best men. And other thing - island is also defended by sailors from those destroyed ships, so island is crowded with sailors, ninjas and other mystical and creatures that world has not ever seen from Japan mainland. Well, haven't seen until brave soviet soldiers tried to crush them. Now world crumbles and fears best hand-picked men and creatures from Emperors secret service and security.
A bit of fantasy - but it is interesting to write, and also, to read this crazy fantasy genre nonsence :p .

I completely disagree. If you try to make a transition to a completely motorized and mechanized army you will MUCH more quickly run out of fuel. Inf do consume alot of fuel later on in the game, but thats only because they comprise a very lage part of most armies. Individually they consume much less than a mot or mech inf div does.

You forgot about one of the most feared group of bandits in the world: Ancient Japanese Pirates! Apparently they all found an elixir of life, and all the Japanese pirates since ancient times have been hiding there. Soviet Propaganda can now also explain how the Mongol Invasion was repelled, it wasn't by a tsunami, thyphoons or storms, but by these large quantities of fearless pirates.

My keybord broke [ coffee related accident ] so i had to write this update
using the on-screen keyboard. I feel like a caveman...

Update nr.94

Japanese do some crazy/desperate attacks - like this one in Hyesan,
a mountainous province full of Soviet armour. Now i know, that they are
completely losing their minds.

hyesanpw3.png

If Japanese want to bleed their own divisions, then it's ok with me.
But since i'm a nice guy, i send 5 more Red Army divisions to Hyesan
and end their misery.

To further reduce the unnecessary enemy sacrifice i make them all surrender.

pocketmh9.png

Hmm...only 12 Japanese divisions are captured.
I thoght it would me much more. I guess Japanese saw this coming
and performed some sort of mass-suicide.
Bushido code says it clearly: better dead than red.

p1bl8.png

And here's the island of Jeju again.
Portuguese, Canadian, South African and other Allied country bomber crews
were practising their bombing skills on the garrison of Jeju for the last week.
I think it's time for me to move in and finish off what's left.

j1in9.png

And Allies did a great job. The garrison was so disorganized that victory was achieved just after two hours of fighting
[ compare that to 4 days of fighting earlier ].

jeju22ev7.jpg

Another attempt to overthrow the evil Mexican government has failed.
No money is left, so i think i will abandon the idea of a socialist American country.
Damn...it had such a huge potencial.

mexicomj8.png

But Soviet government quickly finds a new way to waste money - rockets!
5 rocket test sites are built in Fort Shevchenko and the first Soviet rocket is launched later that year.
Aliens, watch out!

shevchenkobw0.png

And, after years of Japanese oppression, the people of Korea
became free again. Massive celebrations are held in Pyongyang and
all over the rest of the country.
