First off, the usual greetings that you've made a great mod.

I'm posting to ask your opinion, CSABadass. Let's say the CSA wins the first civil war and gains some combination of the border states already, ie Kentucky, Missouri, and/or Arizona. Granted that, now the war of Reunion strikes for whatever reason, how far do you think the CSA could push a second victory?

Let's say, how much do you think the USA would give up in a peace deal for a great CSA victory, a marginal CSA victory, and a prolonged stalemate?

Would the "border states" (the ones gained via a CSA victory demanding all border states) be the extent of the states willing to go Southern? Or could the CSA possibly gain more states, probably outside of the northeast though...

I wanted to try playing a second war between CSA and USA and would mod more victory/defeat events. Want to see how far I can push my Dixie luck :D

Thanks for your opinion!

Thank you very much for the kind words about SR!

Board traffic ate my long reply to your post, so please forgive this short one.

I don't see the South having the will or the means to take and hold any non-slave state without history going off the rails first--too many Yankees who are too damn determined to remain under the old flag otherwise.

Hope that helps. If not, let me know and I can try to redo the long version.

^Agreed.

However, Ive always found it odd that there are events in the game for California and Deseret/Utah to join the CSA...what is up with that???

Maryland is probably the only quasi-realistic option baring the already mentioned border states wouldnt you say?

That said, If I was going for some alternate-unlikely history, some California gold would be nice :D

IRL, there were significant pockets of Confederate sympathizers in California. An entire company of them accompanied A.S. Johnston and Lew Armistead on their westward trek to Confederate lines and served with distinction throughout the War in a Texas cavalry regiment. There's also a $35 million loan the state made the Union during the War that remains unpaid in 2008. If you add in the fact that Cali can enter the Union as a slave state in the GC game (the only scenario its secession can happen), it's not so far fetched.

If you read the text of the CSA Deseret event, it makes it quite clear that it's an alliance based on mutual survival and nothing else.

Ok, so there are some good points to ponder.

If no other states would join the South, then what would be good terms to dictate to the North assuming a major CSA victory? Indemnities? Some kind of colonial compensation?

I know what the North would push for, annexation/reunion ;) But what would the CSA push for, either in an aggressive stance or a major victory in a defensive war?

Indemnities are a sure bet; maybe a DMZ as well.

Defensive wars are the way to go in the Ricky era.

Things could get complicated if the South has European help--just as Mr. Turtledove showed.

I've not read his alternate civil war books. How does european intervention complicate things? I guess I am asking for the 1 paragraph capsule of his multitude of books ;)

Or better yet, read it. I can highly recommend the first four books in the series.

Couple of really good PI mods related to the series, too, I hear.;)

Great freakin mod man. I actually came to this site praying someone modded the game so that someone playing the CSA was not guaranteed a civil war loss/non-existant post-war economy.

I have made it to 1906 as the CSA now, and after 3 consecutive wars against the Ottomans in protection of Austria(I dubbed them the "Turk Wars"), I've been forced into a badboy war (probably for not satelliting Cuba, Hadz-whatever and Tripoli) against Austria, France and Russia. Suffice it to say I stand no chance of taking the war to them with my 10 transport units and taking on three great powers is an impossible feat for my below average RTS gaming. But the fact I lasted to 1906 as the CSA says it all about this mod.

It works, it's fun, and I had a blast sticking it to the conservative world as the State Capitalists' nation of the CSA.

Anyone have any good ideas for getting CSA Socialists into power? It's getting towards the late game now and my capitalists have done all they can do for me, I want to start planning my own economy.

I am aware that you can close all factories during the election month and get socialists into power, but does anyone know a less gamey way to do it?

Thanks!

I did it the long way. Basically I just made sure I chose the right options with each event and let it take forever for the Whig Party (after abolishing slavery) to fall out of favor based on the options I chose.

For instance, my socialist party was Athiest and Pro-Military. So when the events came up that gave the options to set State X's ideology to Pro/Anti Military or Jingoism, I selected Pro Military everytime. When the religious events happened, I made sure to choose "God is Dead!" everytime so that Athiesm would become the majority figure.

Do take note though you can speed it up by holding elections after every election is finished. It gives you more events like the ones I said above, usually 3 or 4 per election each for a different state and depending on what you choose it helps you slowly put your ideas into favor with the public. It takes a while, but it keeps you from shutting down factories and halting production to get it done (I didn't even know you could do that obviously, I'm a newb).

You can also just stop selling goods to the world market and tax your lower class 100%, then they will in most cases vote socialist. If you have a laissez-faire party in power you could try and set all taxes to 0%, sometimes gives the conservatives a majority of the votes, and they would hopefully have interventionism as their economic policy. Then you can hold another election and raise poor taxes to 100%.

Don't really know if this is less gamey, but it kinda works.

Ok, thanks for the ideas.

Regarding the election events: I believe that if you hold an election, the losing party's voters get a bump in militancy. Is this true? Because then I would have a very angry populace. I've been picking Socialist-leaning random event choices since I finished the civil war, but they have never gotten more then ~8% of the vote. They currently sit at 0. I guess I need to grant universal sufferage first?

Also, is there a Socialist revolution event like the Liberal revolution? And if so, anyone know how to trigger it and if it will get a Socialist party in power?

Thanks!

It will trigger on its own sometime in the 1890s or 1900s, I believe. No, it doesn't put a Socialist party in power, it just converts some POPs to Socialist and might induce them to revolt.
