Now that Emperor is finally out, there are only two regions left in the game which haven’t gotten a major regional expansion, Africa and Southeast Asia. I believe the devs teased a Southeast Asia update following Emperor, but regardless, it’s pretty much one of the emptiest regions in the game right now in terms of content. What are some ideas for a SE Asia update?

I have a few, mainly regarding religion. The timeframe of EU4 aligns perfectly with the encroachment of Islam in a previously completely Hindu-Buddhist region. Islam went from an obscure foreign religion to dominating the Malayan Archipelago in the timeframe of the game, so there can be many mechanics that can simulate this shift. There were even times in history where Islam could have spread North into Indochina as well, which brings up many alt history scenarios.

The second main thing is the legacy of Srivijaya. At the 1444 start, it’s been about 50 or so years since the fall of Srivijaya, which had the Western Malay Archipelago pretty much united. Majapahit rose as a successor to Srivijaya, but is on the decline itself by 1444. I feel like you can do a lot with the kingdoms and countries competing to secure the legacy of Srivijaya. Majapahit especially is promising, because it is one of the few countries with the Mandala System government.

I can’t think of much to add to Indochina, because much of Indochina (Modern day Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia) has been covered in past expansions, namely Dharma, Mandate, and Common Sense with the Buddhist mechanics. If you have any ideas, please post them.

Probably add a small handful of provinces to Suvarnabhumi, then restore the effect of a blockade on Trading Power, and perhaps increase government form diversity in the region.

The spread of Islam there is already represented with the Muslim ability to spread religion in trade nodes with merchants.

A buff to Buddhism is necessary, it is almost crippled last time I play one.
Next is formable nations, in the period of EU4, Burmese Subjugation of Ayutthaya succeed twice, Ayutthaya also conquer west to Burmese region and east to Lan Xiang.
Even there is two Siamese Successor states. Khmer is even better, they can return to former glory.

Trade node also need more buff, there need to be change as historically, Siam trade node has trade relations with Chinese as its tributaries.

Moreover, colonizers also can have diplomatic influence in the region which also include propagate Christianity in the area.

More interested in Australiasia to be honest, there isn't a lot of distinction, since New Zealand got a very fine-polish (and a Australian colonial idea group, but they're teeny tiny landmass wise) there's even more arguement for a geographical and geopolitical rehaul.

Here's a map, though its not particularly sorted date-wise, simply a overlay of territories

Unfortunately, more detailed historical maps of tribes can be found in the detail of their settlements being massacred like this one from 1778

I would like to see Animist broken up a bit. At the very least break split the American and Asian branches in two (apparently the current set up can screw with province discovery). They don't need much in the way of mechanics maybe just a repaint of the Pagan Deity mechanic. Personally i would like more but a Buddhist rework should take priority. As an aside it would be nice to see rebels of all pagan religions being able to enforce conversion not just animist.
