Up until yesterday I had no problems with the game at all. It ran beautifully smoothly. This morning I started up the game and as soon as the loading screen appeared it was accompanied by a persistent loud clicking noise and I had a severe delay when trying to click on any of the buttons.
I assumed it was a mod or asset problem and removed all of the ones I had installed. No difference. After spending some time searching forums for suggestions/solutions without success I decided to uninstall/reinstall the game.
This worked fine and the game started with no lag and no clicking noise. However, later in the day when I went to play again ( having shut down my pc) the clickcing and lag had returned and the only solution was to uninstall/reinstall again.
It now seems that everytime I turn off my pc and then return later and turn it back on I need to uninstall/reinstall the game to get it to work.
Please bear in mind I have no technical knowledge being a middle aged Mum who enjoys the game and not a it savvy youngster so if you can keep any suggestions you have to cure this problem explained in very simple language I would appreciate it!

I had this exact same problem when trying the game after a few months and found out that disabling mods and Workshop content made the game run as normal. Below is a link how to try this yourself. The relevant part is "Set launch options" and you should input: --disableMods --noWorkshop.

If this works for you it's probably some mod that you've downloaded that's causing the problem. I disabled mods called something like System clock and Zoneable pedestrian paths and the game runs fine now. I had installed these some months ago and at least the pedestrian paths mod wasn't supported by the newest version of the game anymore.

Hope you find this to be helpful!

Yes, it was the Zoneable Pedestrian Paths mod which I thought I had removed which was causing the problem I think as everything is now back working properly. Shame because I really could have used that mod but hey ho. Many thanks for taking the time to reply.
