HOI3 wasn't really fixed until FTM released in 2011, and didn't really meet it's original potential until TFH dropped in 2012. It takes a long time to fix a buggy mess, especially if you just keep layering more code on top of an unsatisfactory base. The fact that SF was a paid-for DLC but pretty much only fixed existing problems (some of the "features" it added - like historical battle events - were taken out by latter expansion DLCs) was frankly a shame.

Did they even say anything about a release-date (or even year) to begin with? I've heard of no "delays" as the process from the beginning was pretty clearly handled as a "when it's done" approach.
Had they said Q4 2015 then yes the game would be delayed but we haven't even gotten a promised release quarter or year so it's pretty hard to say anything at all.

I'm happy that it's taking time. Rushed releases are a plague in the business and a sure way to scare off the playerbase.

We all have to work to deadlines when you are making a product for a perceived audience but for Paradox it will be a self imposed deadline due to monetary and resourcing considerations more than anything else. Believe me there will be mounting pressure in Paradox to get this out of the door as long as its done right. they certainly dont owe us anything though. We will be happy to receive whatever they give us and we trust them to get it done right. I am sure they are aware of all of this. By all means be frustrated, but go play another game and stop coming to the forum if you cant hack the wait. No point in complaining on a forum though as no-one really cares about a whining game player.

I wouldn't read too much into that statement. A comment was made on that thread that Johan said that HOI4 would be released before Stellaris a couple weeks ago. Johan corrected the poster's timing stating it was said a few months ago, not a few weeks ago. It does not imply that anything has changed.

This guy stated early on that he was just letting out some steam, dont pretend to be surprised after you opened the thread. He just wants more dialog, nothing wrong with that. Stop being so rude to him.

I'm fine with how things are. They obviously can't tell us everything. Heck, what if they don't fully 'know'. They can estimate, but who know what will crop up.

Equally, I am very happy that they do give out information.

I'd just like to point out that, in these days, with a highly wanted release date coming at some point, no-one should use the words 'steam' and 'release' in the same sentence. Some people (myself included) automatically reads "Steam release" or some such variation, creating expectations that a release date on steam is actually publicized

Let the guy vent his frustration, and ignore the thread if need be. Just goes to show you how anticipated this game is and what a dedicated fan base it has. This forum is turning out to be a Hearts of Iron delay disappointment support group. Where else should people go?

Second way: Absolute open communication. You keep your customers/fans informed about the actual date of the estimated release. I know you try this but for me it is absolutely not statisfying to hear nothing in several month of time.

What if they don't have a date? What do you want to hear in that case?

-they'll tell us as soon as they have one

It's like steam, steam is great for a lot of reasons, but too often people just say "I'll wait for a sale". The expectation has arrived that within 3 months or 6 months a game will be heavily discounted, this means that for consumers willing to wait, the price for an AAA title becomes £15 with 60% off. They take the discount into account and it makes it harder to sell the game at the full price.

I think it's the other way around entirely. Steam sales induce people to buy games they would have never bought, because they think they're getting a 'great deal'. I reckon that group far outweighs the small group that is 'going to buy but willing to wait on a sale'. Why would steam adopt a policy that didn't bring in more money overall? Why do stores every have sales? Because it results in more spending, not less.
