((Admin hat on))

Hello everyone! I wanted to give you a quick update on IRL stuff and how it will affect things going forward. June and July are going to be big transition months for me, so if I don't respond right away to questions/concerns, please don't worry. We're moving to a new state, and I'm starting a new job in July. I'm not entirely sure what my schedule would be yet, so that may further delay things.

I recognize that another significant hiatus is not what this iAAR needs right now, and we have all the momentum of a drunk person stumbling around in the dark at present. It may be more prudent to let this dead horse die a merciful death rather than keep trying to resurrect, but I will repeat what I've said all along: I'm the chronicler. The iAAR is about whether you folks are having a good time and want to continue with things. If you are, I have no difficulties at all with continuing to administer the iAAR. The recent roll call suggests that people are still interested to some degree, but perhaps the news would change your opinion.

For now, let us proceed under the assumption that things will continue as normal. That means we need DV and Conservative agendae. The KPD and DDA will not have agendae at present; the DDA, for all practical purposes, no longer exists, and I'm the only active player with perhaps unfair insider knowledge of other party agendae in the KPD. As soon as all agendae (and yes, I will continue to use the proper Latin plural) are in, we'll proceed to legislation and the budget.

Thanks everyone for your patience!

Hello everyone.

As we've reached another impasse, I think it is best that we simply end the AAR as is. Even if the missing parties submitted their agendae five minutes from now, it's getting to be troublesome to constantly badger people to continue participating. There is no reason for anyone to feel ashamed or bad about that--as an iAAR, we've survived for three and a half years! It's survived at least five or six moves in three countries, and that's all thanks to the commitment and talent of our wonderful players. Let me thank you all, past and present, for participating. It's been a lot of fun weaving new mechanics into the iAAR, seeing how people changed as characters, and seen how we reacted to a game that is, sadly, a bit behind the times these days. I'm impressed with how much creativity players displayed even as I "forced" you to work within the confines of what the game deemed possible.

The vision I originally had when I started this iAAR was to see how our alternate Germany would function as a democracy. It did swimmingly. I assumed--at a minimum--we would relapse into constitutional monarchy (which I was prepared for) or even a dictatorship. We didn't; we kept the democracy running. We handled the Fascist parties with maturity and aplomb. This iAAR has been every bit as successful as I hoped it would, and for that, one last time, I must thank all of you.

I'd like to single out a few contributors for doing more than their share. @Sakura_F, @Andre Massena, and @Dadarian created or led parties that had distinctive characteristics quite a bit different from what I envisioned would happen with those parties. I assumed the BP would be centrist; instead, it vacillated between left and right as it struck the mood of its creator. The Imperialists went from being just a shade below the conservatives to an actively obstructionist reactionary party that added an important sense of tension. The KPD rejected revolution and embraced regional, national-ethnic autonomy as its raison d'etre.

@TJDS made the DSU a real force in the Reichstag, but more than that, was instrumental in drafting key legislation and worked tirelessly to see it implemented. More than any character, he was devoted to making the AAR plausible, in my opinion. @Michaelangelo played a brilliant President who acted exactly as I expected one should act. Although they are no longer part of the AAR, @Gen. Marshall and @DensleyBlair were instrumental in keeping the AAR alive in its infancy through rich characters.

@PTSnoop (as well as DB, already mentioned) did a lot to help us with the math and the basic mechanics of the game. @LatinKaiser proved a reliable steward of the Hohenzollern family and a skilled military planner; @DutchGuy made sure that, whatever else, the AAR was never boring. @Davout was key to the creation of several plans and the new military mechanics (which never got used, unfortunately).

However, I must single out one especially important contributor: @Idhrendur. Without his converters, neither this AAR or its predecessor would have ever been possible. He's been an invaluable contributor in his own right, but even if he never played a character, we quite literally could not have done this without him.

I know this did not end as satisfactorily as it might have, but I think we all deserve to feel pride in what we created: an exciting, vibrant AAR that did not descend into the chaos others have fallen prey to.

What's next for me, you may ask? I've still got two AARs in writing and a few YouTube series, so you're welcome to join us there. If you feel the iAAR itch, I'll be running the CK2 iAAR in my signature for some time to come. I'll probably not do another Vicky 2 AAR; the game is just too old, in my opinion, and until there's a Vicky 3, it will have to be set aside. My life is going to be rather chaotic in the months to come, so for the time being, I don't anticipate starting another AAR. I'll be posting on YouTube and the existing AARs, but no new ones, I don't think. That said, there's always the chance I'll feel the itch to tell a story again, not just record videos, and I hope you'll join me when and if I do. Until next time, my friends, I wish you the best of luck and look forward to seeing you around!

Best wishes,

Avindian

((I had a feeling this was coming eventually. I'll be sad to see this iAAR finally go, even if I understand the reasons why it is over. I will always remember SoA as the first iAAR I ever participated in and the one that not only got me to participate in several more but start my own. At least I get to leave knowing my character will be the first and only female Reichspräsident. That makes up for never getting the chance to restore the monarchy. ;)

I think we're all waiting for Victoria 3 at this point. Take the hint already, Paradox. :D))

No need to use parentheses any more; it's all OOC now. :)

I might have to check out one of your iAARs at some point, if I get the bug to participate.

Congratulations to Avindian and all fellow participants for lasting this long. My only request is that we take a moment of silence to remember the many fish who gave their lives for @Dadarian to fling them across the chamber.

Shame it's over, but it had seemed to be going that way for a while now, so no real surprise.

Anyway, Thanks to Avindian for the great iAAR!

I, for one, will appreciate being able to be the first Reichspresident of Germany, and being chancellor, though I honestly feel the Liberal dominance that earned me those positions made the game duller for any party whose ideals were far away from the Liberal "center." I also feel good about myself in helping found the united DLP, unifying the divided Liberal parties once and for all.

Thanks, all, for making this fun for me! Hope you all had fun in your various parts as well!

Sadly, I joined near the end, but even from what I read, I congratulate Avindian for the great iAAR and at least I am more experienced in iAARs and will probably join the ck2 iaar

Too bad that it ended, I had been watching and enjoying this iaar. I never joined since I was too unsure about if I could be good at rping when I had first found this. Although I have gotten better, I had decided to remain a lurker and watched this as it played out.

This was a good and fun journey. It's exactly this kind of AAR that always made it worthwhile to work on the converters (though sadly this one was done before a massive redesign of EU3 to Vic2 that would have improved a great many things).

The iAAR Vic2 part also inspired the semi-interactive part of my megacampaign. (Incidentally, though we're near the end of VIc2, you can still join up before the last State of the Empire address). And that was a choice that made everything far more interesting.

Thank you for writing and GM-ing this!

This was a very good iAAR, although I joined quite late in the game, I enjoyed it very much. Luckily we witnessed the end of Liberal domination and a peaceful transition to the beginnings of a Federal Socialist Welfare State.

RIP in peace, it was a time. Thank you for everything Avindian.

All hail the archaeopteryx

How could I forget the archaeopteryx! That majestic dinosaur has been eternally immortalized in my forum title thanks to this iAAR. I will never forget the absurd flags that were created, the numerous flag burning sessions, and how putting a dinosaur on a flag took down an entire government. Honestly, despite its absurdity, it was the best thing we ever accomplished in this iAAR. :p

Oh man, archaeopteryx was so great. And I always loved @Dadarian's characters' obstructionism and antics.

My antics are patented. If anyone throws a fish irl, I get a nickle.

Decided to go back and read the section of the iAAR with the archaeopteryx for some good laughs. Thought I'd repost the flags here, as well as one pair of archaeopteryx undergarments courtesy of Andre, so we can all share on the laughs. :p
