That is a good question.

How dare you politicize the death of a Reichstag member, you impudent ape.

The assassination of Herr Victor was an act of terrorism meant to weaken the government and our democracy. Am I wrong to point this out?

Do not lecture me on "politicizing" the death of my friend.

Who is this?

von Altmark looks around at the various offended faces due to his statement.

No, I am quite serious, who is this person and what has he done to warrant such a title? I have never heard him prior to his death.

Sir, it appears you have been eating too much fish.

Sir, it appears you have been eating too much fish.

Yes, fish being a known stimulant of clear thinking, that would explain Herr von Altmark's current astute state of mind.

What happened was a tragedy. Whether we have any reason to have heard of this man or not, his death is not something for everyone to squabble over.

Otto Kant, as Commander of the Gendarmerie, it is your job to conduct an investigation into the death of Herr Victor.

I order an investigation, immediately.

Not that you weren't going to investigate, as is your duty.

~Johannes Carile, Minister of the Interior

((I think I need to invest in some more bodyguards.:())
The Minister of the Interior has spoken. I order an investigation into the death of Herr Victor using the powers vested in me as Commander of the Gendarmerie. Further investigation details shall be submitted later.

- Otto Kant, Commander of the Gendarmaire

((You might want to consider having a list of all those 65 written out since I highly doubt most of the player here could name them all. It'd be hard for the Head of the Gendarmerie to investigate if they don't know the states. :p We might also have to consider where the players are placed. For example, if most players originate from a few specific states, it would be a lot easier to find the culprit if the Head of the Gendarmerie focused on those states.))

((I will include this on the OP as well when/if we officially approve investigation. Click the spoiler for the complete list.

Perhaps I can help clarify. Herr Victor was a noted federalist, and one of the first - and, certainly, one of the loudest and clearest - to call for the establishment of a federalised government of the Republic. He was one of the founding members of the Bundespartei, and - though he may not have been as vocal and argumentative as some of the Stadtholders we have with us today - he was very clearly instrumental in shaping public discourse towards matters of minority representation and devolution of power, culminating recently in the establishment of the Italian Parliament. It is - I gather - for this reason that Herr Liberator might regard him as the "greatest man in Germany".

But though we came from different political positions, Herr Victor and I often found common ground through our mutual interest in the region of Italy. The two of us collabarated on the Minorities Bill)back in 1878. More recently, Herr Victor was the Bundespartei candidate for President of Italy - and had a handful of seats fallen differently, he would have been President of Italy, and I would have been the one stood to one side of the platform and facing the assassins' bullets.

So, though I would not have described Herr Victor as a close personal friend, his sudden death has come as a serious shock to me. And I cannot bear to hear his name banded about as some sort of faceless backbencher. If certain members of the Reichstag do not recognise the name Emmanuel Victor, then - to my mind - that signifies an overly parochial mindset on the part of the members in question, rather than some deficiency of notability on Herr Victor's part. If he spent more time with his constituents than flinging insults or fish across the Reichstag hall, then I do not see that as some kind of deep moral failing.

Nevertheless, today is indeed a sad day for Italy and for the Republic. I wholeheartedly support the calls for a thorough investigation, and hope that the perpetrators can be swiftly brought to justice.

Name: Maria Victor
Party Affiliation: Bundespartei
Age: 35
Birthplace: Foggia
Conclave
Bio: The widow of the late Emmanuel Victor, Maria was born in Foggia the daughter of a local Greek Bureaucrat. Becoming an early supporter of Federalism and Women's Suffrage, she met Emmanuel Victor at a Federalist rally. Their relationship was at first was purely political, with him supporting her as she became mayor of Foggia and her rallying support for him at home. However, despite their difference in age, they soon became intimate friends and later lovers, eventually announcing an engagement in 1880. Though they differentiated on some political matters, most notably that of the economy, they remained fond of each other. Together they became a political powerhouse in Italy, with his North Italian background and her Napoli credentials being instrumental in the spread of a unified Italian identity on the Appenine peninsula. Maria became known as La Lady di Ferro, or the Women of Iron, in some circles for her unyielding political stances. She herself won a seat on the Italian Parliament during the hotly contested election of 1885. With the region still divided on various issues, both Emmanuel and Maria accompanied President Adimari on a visit to Napoli...

That's why I didn't know him, I paid no attention to a single thing he did.

((It's BundespartEi. Not partai. Partai is not a German word. Sorry, that's my little nitpick >_>))

Name: Konrad Friedrich von Hohenzollern
Party: Conservative Party
Date of Birth: 16 October, 1856
Chamber: Conclave of Stadtholders

Biography: Konrad Friedrich was born the only son of Michael von Hohenzollern and his Italian wife (despite scandalous rumors, Michael maintained that he had married her after she had become pregnant). Having never met his mother, he was raised by his uncle Fritz's family, for his father was almost always away on diplomatic business. Growing up as the nephew of Germany's foremost businessman (with the possible exception of Friedrich Meier) had its benefits -- not only did Konrad Friedrich receive the finest education at the prestigious University of Nurnberg, but he also accompanied his adventurous uncle on many expeditions around the world, most famously as part of a team that discovered the source of the Nile River in Africa. Konrad Friedrich also served in the German Navy from 1872 to 1886, obtaining the rank of Korvettenkapitan. After his father's death at the hands of socialist rebels under the command of his estranged cousin Ferdinand, Konrad Friedrich publicly declared the man dead to him, and he became a lifelong enemy of the radical left. This experience, coupled with the influence of his capitalist uncle, made Konrad Friedrich a natural supporter of the German Right, and he joined the Conclave as a member of the Conservative Party.

I must join the varied and passionate calls for the finding of traitor who ordered the assassination of the Heer,Victor he and I were often on the opposite side of many issues but he was nonetheless a loyal and passionate German who deserved respect from all of us for his work I hope his assassins are found and hung and that his soul rests in peace. Furthermore at this time I will reintroduce one of my older pieces of legislation to ensure proper justice is done to the perpetrator of this heinous crime
The Treason Act
All men found guilty of High Treason will be hung by the neck until dead
Furthermore, I believe the Greeks need to be taught their place and call for the Minister of the Interior to bring a motion to the conclave for Martial law to be enforced throughout the Greek Region for 1 year.
On a happier note I wish to thank Heer Chancellor for the appointment to the Minority Commission and will endeavour to bring the Commission's policies more in line with traditional, conservative, and proper views on the minorities of Germany.
I would like to express my farewell to my colleagues of many years Fritz von Hohenzollern and Friedrich von Hohenstaufen wish him the best in their future endeavours. Further I welcome Konrad Friedrich von Hohenzollern to the conclave and congratulate him on his new son.
Finailly we cannot leave our allies without help and permit their land to be held by foreigners the Foreign Minister must call for war with Norway Both to return our allies land and to ensure that never again the Norwegian menace will be able to spite her neighbors.

Sir, a newer law by your old collegue Fritz von Hohenzollern bans reintroducing acts...

But I believe that at the same time, it only blocks it from being reintroduced repeatedly during the same cycle, which is not the case here, as I haven't seen any such legislation during the current government.

~Johannes Carile

Noting the issue of martial law, I am willing to call for it only if the rebel movement still persists. Could I get a report on the group in question? Are there more of them?

The Redundancy Act was repealed as part of the late Emmanuel Victor's legislation on vetos. Frau Victor's proposal will be added to the ballot.

((They're gone, and there are no movements apart from social reforms.))

I think I will go ahead and implement the Investigation Mechanic and add it to the front page without a vote, simply because nobody has made any kind of objection and these investigations might take a while, so it makes sense to get started now. If we discover something doesn't work, we'll go from there. :)

@Qwerty7, you'll have to choose one or the other assassination to investigate -- the murder of Victor or the attempt on Dwyfor-Frauenkirche. Once you've chosen, you may submit the list of places you intend to investigate.

I am not quite certain if Danzig makes a proper case to have their lands "liberated" from Norway. It appears to me that the lands in dispute may be properly Norwegian lands.

Furthermore, I believe that Herr Schwaben's term should be extended to 1889 so that our elections may be in sync once again.

-Chancellor Meningen

Stadtholder Liebknecht, the Chancellor's friend was murdered and a death threat to all liberals left with his body. This tragedy is already political, and you are a disgusting excuse of a man for the cruelty and indignity of your words.

No additions to the Education Plan are needed at this time, and I am of the opinion that the term of Schwaben should be extended.

I personally have no qualms with extending the Reichpresident's term by a year or two to match it up with the election cycle. It might also perhaps lead to some stability to have the government stay intact for a few more years, and that includes the Reichpresident maintaining his position. I can also imagine the bureaucratic nightmare that may result if we have our elections staggered.
