Imperialists - Reactionary "... several of their members have reinvented themselves again into a more traditional-reactionary obstructionist group, opposing any and all change to anything whatsoever."

(("several", yeah huh))

I would like to propose the following bill ((I can still do that right? If not, reserve it a spot after the election..))

~ Konrad von Schwaben

Again, Herren, kindly refrain from proposing new bills until the next session of the Reichstag.

Foreign ministry plan is passed; once Herr von Hohenstaufen has provided his proposal for the Ministry of the Interior, and either the Chancellor or the parties involved clear up the misunderstanding with the Ministries of Finance and Education ((hint hint, MG)), we may adjourn for the year. ((And I can play and get this AAR moving!))

Letter from Otto von Bismarck, Schönhausen, Germany:

Leave the Constitution alone; the current system of Chancellor terms is more than sufficient to do the job. If I didn't try to get more terms in office, you shouldn't either, Herr Kanzler.

Warmest regards,
Otto von Bismarck

Letter to Otto von Bismarck:

The old system might work fine, but it seems to me, that it needs to be reformed. Let the people, not the law chose, who they want as Kanzler. The whole system needs to be reformed. Sadly, it will be hard to achieve when you only have 2 terms alá 4 years. If one could have more, things could change much faster. Good things could happen. We are very different Herr Bismarck, but I see that the world as it currently is, is not capable of my ideas.

Best regards,
Kanzler Konrad von Schwaben

You need to choose either Assembly or Conclave for voting rights, as well as a birthplace (unless it's Nassau, obviously) :) Other than that, welcome aboard!

EDIT: If somebody is interested in a particularly time consuming and thankless task that would nonetheless help out the AAR, please message me.

((As far as I know, Bismarck served more than four years as Chancellor. Didn't he serve a lot longer? He was Chancellor from the death of von Bern to 1870. Wasn't that quite a long time? 1853 or 1854 to 1870?))

((Um, "another" New Society member? As far as I'm aware, *I* was the most recent new New Society member, way back on page 138 - not counting retired/deceased characters being replaced by new ones with similar party affiliation. Maybe you're thinking of the HUN?

Either way - welcome to the New Society, PrincepsAbsolut! I think we've got about a fifty-fifty split of Stadtholders and Assemblymen within the New Society, so things are pretty well balanced whichever way you choose.))

((EDIT - In our timeline, Bismarck was Chancellor from 1871 until 1890, or so Google tells me.))

((What ministry do railroads fall under?))

((When things are running properly, the Head of the Meier Family State Planning Commission handles that.))

Ah, that makes more sense. I've had a look through the thread, and I've been able to put together a timeline. (Annoyingly, all the links in the Table Of Contents on page 1 have been broken since the forum change, so this took a bit longer than it should have.)

1849 - New Society chancellor Von Bern is assassinated. Friedrich-Augustus von Altmark takes over as Acting Chancellor. After a vote, Otto von Bismarck is chosen to sit out the rest of Von Bern's term.
1854 - Bismarck elected Chancellor, and enters his first term proper.
1858 - Bismarck is re-elected, and enters his second term.
1863 - Bismarck recognises he is no longer eligible to stand for Chancellor, and recommends Hugo Unger for the position. Hugo Unger appoints Bismarck as his Foreign Minister.
1867 - Michael von Hohenzollern is elected Chancellor, and re-appoints Bismarck as Foreign Minister.
1870 - Michael von Hohenzollern is forced to resign amidst financial scandal. Bismarck retires from politics. Liberals are elected into power - the thread subsequently descends into chaos, UAI leadership suffers a takeover bid, coalition declared void, second election within six months, etc., etc.

((Yeah, I'm as surprised as you are. But as I was grepping through earlier pages of the thread to find out what the original idea behind the HUN was, I found right at the top of Page 91 that the UAI had been the Union of Allied Interests since the prologue on Page 1. It's true!))

((I can't believe no one remembered that. Obviously the name needs to be edited in the main post so we get it right from now on. I'm also laughing my head off that varetta tried to changed UAI to FAP back then. :p))

((Damn.Another New Society member :p Why dont I ever get new Socialists :p ))

((Excuse me, but at least you get new people. I'm pretty sure the only Imperialists we've had since your first Hohenzollern left are ones who've woken up from decades-long comas.))

((That's no way to get people to help. You should describe it as "self-rewarding" and that they'll receive your eternal gratitude. Now you've got me curious about what this task is.))

((Is it just me or is Idhrendur agreeing with every single post?))

((Well he's clearly a very agreeable person. Either that or he's being nice by preparing us for the eventual implementation of those trophies that require agrees. Achievement hunters will appreciate his efforts. :D))

Gentlemen of the Reichstag I ask you to lend me your ears. I know that I am a newcomer to these hollowed halls but I feel that I can be of service. One thing that the recent rebellions have showed me is that our response time is to long. It is for this reason that I suggest the Head of the State Planning Commission designate a main railway on the continent. This rail would travel from the most northern part of the country to the most southern with to branches going to both the east and western fronts. This rail will take priority for any upgrades and repairs that become available.
