I will vote for mercy. The defendant deserves life imprisonment for what he has done, of that there is no doubt, however execution will be damaging, not only to the man's son but also to the morale of the German people. I fear this may only inflame the situation further. I also find my fellow members of the Reichstag's opinion that somehow all German soldiers are pure and dedicated to our glroious republic and committed no atrocities to be extremely foolish. There is no doubt that these Militant Socialists did as well, yet they will be the ones punished, and not the soldiers.

Ferdinand von Hohenzollern's request shows an inconsistent attitude towards the importance of family. First, he requests that his sentence be reduced on the basis that his son requires a father - but then he requests that Albrecht be completely separated from any other members of his extended family. This does not seem normal or reasonable.

Ferdinand has good-as-admitted that the reason for such a request is to ensure that Albrecht grows up to hold Ferdinand's own political views. Given that those political views include treason against the Republic, I see no reason why this request should be upheld by the court.

Furthermore, I know of no legal basis for a plea of leniency on the basis of parenthood. If there were, then far fewer executions would be carried out by the Republic's legal system. To give Ferdinand special treatment in this case on the basis of his esteemed surname would be, in my opinion, a gross miscarriage of justice.

No Mercy shall be given to the defendant.

Furthermore, I support Ferdinand's request of execution by firing squad and oppose the alternative proposals of execution by public or private hanging, and I strongly oppose the suggestion that the firing squad members be government figures. I also suggest that no special measures be taken by the court regarding Albrecht's relation with his extended family, either for or against - Ferdinand's wife (( does she have a name? I don't think she's been given one yet )) shall remain in custody of the child, and it shall ultimately remain her decision.

My wife is named Fredericka Mauer.I think she will honour my last wish, as we are on equal footing.She has the same rights as I do,she is not entrenched in the kitchen like the common German housewife.And for your information, my son Albrecht is not even close enough related to even be able to call the branch of my Uncles, his close family.All I have left are my sisters, who have been married off like slaves.My older brother has been dead for decades, as is my father and grandfather.The Hohenzollerns of that branch have no close connection anymore to my branch.Sending my son to them is like sending an orphan to a completely new family, while there is still one capable parent left.

I have done some hard thinking on my decision for this trial and have decided that the defendant deserves no mercy. While I was willing to consider his mercy plea with the possibility of his newborn son becoming fatherless, his later statements make it glaringly obvious that he carries no remorse for his actions and the damage he has caused. Quite frankly, the man is delusional and a danger to society. I fear that sparing his life may spur on the militant socialists to break him free at a later date and cause even more harm. As for his son, perhaps he will grow up in a more loving home amongst his fellow Hohenzollerns without the influence of his father.

On a more distressing note, I am no longer proud to be considered a German, since with the passing of the Citizenship and Religion Act the term no longer has any meaning. Now that anyone with a single German parent is considered a German citizen, regardless of birthplace or ethnicity, I expect to see millions of foreigners outside our borders claim German citizenship within a few generations. All it takes is a few thousand Germans to emigrate elsewhere and all their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and so on will be considered German citizens without ever having set foot within our glorious nation. Just like the Romans, the barbarians will flood our borders and wipe away our civilization.

I am seeking your approval for to come to our ally's aid in a purely financial and moral sense; we would provide war subsidies but no active military support at this time.
